  Question about nursing toddler who depends on nursing for sleep... Reply Contact I am wondering if anyone else has had to make a fast transition into no more breastfeeding their toddler? I am kind of worried my milk supply will go down dramatically and he will be really upset about it. How do I get a dependant on nursing toddler to sleep without nursing? Anyone else have this problem? Also, has anyone not had their milk supply go down???? HELP ME PLEASE WITH YOUR ADVICE! Elise

Reply Contact He'll probably wean himself once the supply starts to dwindle, that's what mine did.  I was also so sore during the first trimester that I would only let him nurse for a short time at night.  Eventually it wasn't worth it for him and he stopped asking.  Now I still lay w/ him while he goes to sleep but I face away from him just to protect my giant belly.  Maybe see where he leads you.   Janine

Reply Contact Either nothing drastic happened to my supply, or Andrew didn't care and used me as a pacifier, because he nursed the whole time and now we are tandem nursing... oh joy LOL.  He's only sleep dependent on it for nap time, not at night, so I don't have much advice there. Just wanted to wish you luck and offer support.   Vanessa

The first time, I was nursing my dd to sleep all the way up until the night I had my 2nd dd. BAD mistake. It was tough. I would start letting your dh try to get her to sleep or rock her or something b/c it was really rough the first few weeks after my 2nd daughter was born. With my third child, around my 25th week, I started rocking my youngest dd to sleep and then we transitioned to her lying beside me in bed and going to sleep. It was much easier.

  Re: Question about nursing toddler who depends on nursing for sleep... Reply Contact I am now nursing an 18 month old and a three month old. It's a lot of work. But, I didn't have the heart to stop nursing my 18 month old, especially with her already being jelous of the new baby. It's nice to still have that time together at the end of the day, helps you feel like things haven't changed all that much. My milk supply only went down for a little while, then went back up. Good Luck.
