  Re: Is there anybody out there? Reply Contact We're starting late, but I have a 25 month old that seems to be willing to learn. We watch PBS Sprout every night and they sign a word a night and I was so excited last night when she signed "Cat" "Dinosaur" "Dance" without me signing along with her. She started by herself last night by getting my attention & saying "CAT" and signing it I'd like to add we've only caught these 3 but I try to practice cumulatively each time we learn a new one. I would like to teach her to sign without speaking the word, but I'm at a loss where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Reply Contact We did it with our oldest when she started eating solids and taught her "done" "more" "eat" and tried to get her to do "drink' or "milk" but she diden't pick those ones up for somereason but they helped alot until she started talking at least at meal times. we will do it again with our 2nd dd as well but i would start from where it seems to you that your baby gets most frustrated with trying to tell you things thats how we did it Karuna13: I really want to begin, but dont know where to start.

  Re: Is there anybody out there? Reply Contact I signed with my son starting at around 3 months (that's when they begin to focus) and I am just starting with my daughter. I used a book and CD combo called Pick Me Up! and it had all sorts of signs that relate to feeding, animals, etc. Another good way to learn how signs are properly done is to view the American Sign Language Browser. It shows videos on how to properly sign hundreds of words. The videos were helpful when the written instructions and/or illustrations just didn't make sense to me. Good luck and happy signing!

It is designed for babies 6 months - 3 years, and is a lovely introduction to American Sign Language in a musical setting. You will love it! It is a great way to meet other parents who are also interested in signing with their babies. You can find a program by you by going to the teacher locator on the Kindermusik site: www.kindermusik.com
