    ok more issues...update

So Hayden was doing really well bfing then all of a sudden this past week since saturday hes decided hes not even gonna try to latch on. we found out last night hes teething my friend whos a pediatric nurse came over and checked him out cause i was concerned about his stuffy nose and he had a low grade fever and i told her about him drooling and making spit bubbles and chewing and she looked in and sure enough his gums are all swollen and red anyways my question is could him not wanting to latch on have something to do with him teething? i read on kellymom.com that when they randomly decide to not bf anymore its usually becasue something is wrong and it doesnt last very long so im thinking it has to do with him teething i just hope he starts wanting to bf again my supply is hurting and even though i try to pump every 2-3 hours im only getting up to 5oz and thats once aday the rest of the day im lucky to get 3 and hes eating up to 6oz a feeding now.

well i dont want to jinx it but he nursed this morning at 5:30 for half an hour and then wanted the bottle the rest of the day but tonight before bed for his feeding right before bed he nursed again im so happy but like i said every time i say something i jinx it and he stops again lets hope hes decided to bf again im not ready to give it up yet

how old is him? 6 oz seems quite a lot for a feeding..... BF babies don't eat as much as formula fed babies.... make sure the nipples he is using are the slowest ones you can find (lactation consultant told me to use medela slow flow) if it's getting easier for him to eat of a bottle, chances are it won't be easy to get him to nurse, remember nursing is a lot of work compared to the bottle. if you are 100% sure he is teething and he is over 6 months, try baby motrin. otherwise, i would suggest not to bottle feed him anymore, he will have to nurse then.

We are on same birth board--I didn't realize you were having these issues til a little while ago-- I am sorry-- I know how stressful it is.. If he is teething then it will make him be not want to latch.. My oldest had 2 teeth by 16wks. Anyhow, did you get some baby orajel?? Maybe try that and see if he will nurse.. If he's got a stuffy nose--are you running a humidifier? Are you on your cycle? Is this the time of the month you would be on it?? I know Alex has a look and pull when he tastes something different in my milk--like when I'm supposed to be on cycle bu don't..

Just to add, watch out for the orajel...I was told by my dr. to wait until he can at least hold his head up because there have been cases that a baby that cannot hold up it's head will let it go down their throat and some choke on the spit because it numbs their throat and they don't know how to swallow. Tucker just turned 16 weeks and I was so frusturated one night I gave it to him and he did fine. I would just watch him closely. Also, I know since Tucker started teething he eats A LOT less...don't worry Mama....this too shall pass!Smile

Try a finger mouth massager, It usually made of a rubbery material. I tried this on my little one before feeding him and he loved it.
