    Think about Pediatric Chiropractic evaluation

Our babe had collic from 12 weeks to 6 months..... unconsolable crying, reflux etc etc. The now infamous "witching hour(s)" of 5pm to 10pm every night was as regular as clockwork. She eventually went to sleep exhausted at 10pm, but we mistakenly belived this to be her "night owl" tendencies. At age 1 she has had ongoing problems with plagiocephaly (asymettrical head development) and tortocollis (tightening of one side of the neck), which have been hampering her gross motor skill development. It took me a long to time realize that a) she needed to go to bed BEFORE 5pm so she was not overtired and b) there were other issues causing her discomfort. We have only recently taken her to a chirporactor, who found that she had alignment issues from C1/C2 to the sacrum. After just a few adjustments (which were very gentle) she's a different baby. Now crawling forwards, trying to walk everywhere, and holding her head high. I'd recommend looking into this for a much younger baby, as I now believe that she could have had alignment issues going back to her birth. There's some great books out there that my chiropractor recommended to explain the links between skull and spine development and alignment with collic and other conditions like reflux. I'd recommend locating a board certified pediatric specialist in your area, and then just go and have your baby evaluated. It just might be an answer for you too!

My second was also really bad with collic, he cried from 7pm until 1pm every night. I had several people recommend chiropractic to me and I was too afraid to try it on such a young thing. At 11 months he got a severe ear infection that wouldn't go away despite four rounds of various antibiotics so I finally had the nerve to call the chiropractor. I figured if she could help with colic maybe she could prevent my son from getting tubes. She was great and I've always regretted not taking my son to her when she was originally recommended for colic as I sincerely believe that she would have helped us out and restored sanity to our lives much earlier! My point for anyone reading, don't be scared of this approach, the adjustments are so gentle. In facfact, we've incorporated chiropractic as routine health care for us and my kids fight to get on the table first! Also, I haven't personally tried homeopathy for collic as we didn't discover this option until after the fact but I have for other things that can't be helped by standard medical practice ie. consitpation and I've had great success!

I 100% agree.  Its a growing trend.  Birth, especially with today's modern practices, can be very traumatic on the spine of a newborn.  And, without treatment, sometimes it doesn't resolve itself.  Colic isn't always gastrointestinal.  It is a specific response to something that is bothering them.  I took my little guy for infant chiropractic treatments (a general family chiropractor with infant specialization was what we chose) and the adjustments are very gentle...almost like infant massage.  Brayden (my baby) had horrible sleep problems.  He had a hard time turning his head one way or the other to get comfortable.  So...I decided to try this!  The chiro, right of the bat, noticed that he had tremendous tightness in his neck.  I hadn't even told her his problems before her evaluation.  She said she preferred it that way, because many moms were very skeptical of the idea of chiro care for a baby.  After noticing the tightness, she spout his symptoms one after the other..."Is he having trouble turning his head?  Is he having trouble sleeping?  Does he have trouble lifting his head when on his tummy?"  Yes, to all of the above.  What was even MORE amazing was that she nailed the problems in the delivery, as well.  "He was born occiput posterior, wasn't he?" Etc.  Right on.

The first adjustment was kind of painful for him, though her touch was ultra-delicate.  She showed me exactly the pressure and massage she was using.  His tightness was so profound, though, that it was painful and would take several appointments to get it released.  After the massage of the neck, he was bawling, so she used instant accupressure points on his buttocks to calm him down.  As soon as she pressured those points, he fell asleep on my shoulder...and slept for about 4 hrs.  Amazing job.  His overnight sleeping was really not improved, unfortunately, and we still (at 2.5 yrs old) deal with that issue, but his mobility immediately improved.  And his daytime mood was improved 100%.

I completely recommend an infant chiro evaluation soon after birth, when it is best to treat any misalignment, subluxations or muscle spasm/tightening that may have occurred during the birth.  Great idea!

Yes!!! I would definitely reccomend it!!! I regret not taking my daughter as she had severe colic, but I took my son at 6 weeks old and he was a different baby after the treatment. Not a miracle treatment, but anything that lessens the crying/screaming has got to be worth it!
