    Lexapro

I was just prescribed Lexapro to treat my PPD.

Has anyone taken this? What should I expect?

    Re: Lexapro

Lexapro helped me tremendously. It is really great with motivational issues and mood swings. Give it a month before you judge it, unless you are experiencing adverse side-effects.

You might experience a strange taste in your mouth, but it can go away with time. Also, you might have some insomnia for a while.

Don't stop taking it cold-turkey, if you change your mind on it. Decrease by half-dose for a few weeks. The withdrawals can be miserable.

Also, if you are nursing, you might see your baby become insomnic and irritable. That was the only really adverse thing that happened with me on Lexapro. I had to stop taking it immediately, because my baby girl, who normally slept 5-7 hrs straight at night, was not sleeping any more than 45 minutes at a time at all during the day or night.

    Re: Lexapro

My Dr. wanted to put me on lexapro because she likes it the best and she had samples. However the only anti-depressent that is approved for breastfeeding is zoloft. She said that the medicines work pretty much the same so it would probably be ok, but she didn't want to take any chances. So I don't exactly know about lexapro, but the zoloft is working pretty well for me. I've been on it about three weeks now and I started to feel better after a week or two.

    Re: Lexapro

Thanks for the help. So far I haven't felt any different, but I've only been taking it for 3 days. My doctor said it might take 4 weeks for me to feel any changes.

i haven't noticed any side effects, except a little nausea. I'll have to watch out for my son getting insomnia. My doctor said it could affect him too.

If this doesn't work, I'll ask about the zoloft.

It's so good to hear reassurance that I will be okay. Sometimes it just seems so daunting...

    FLCrissy you have a PM.

You will be ok!! I have been on the zoloft for about a month now and I feel so much better. It's not perfect yet, but I am staying positive. The biggest thing is that you knew there was a problem and you're taking care of it. I hope that it works wonders for you!
