Anyone had Issues w/ UTI in baby

  Anyone had Issues w/ UTI in baby Reply Contact My daughter is almost 5 months old and she had 100,000 e coli bacteria in her urine. She had a fever for a few days so we took her to the Dr and she had a UTI. Since her e coli count was so high the Dr wants to do a test where they put dye in her bladder and check to see if something is wrong w/ the lower part of bladder kidney area (VCUG). I am wondering weather or not to have this test done since she has only had the one UTI. I do not want to put her through a test that hurts due to catheter. But I also do not want her to get more sick from us not having the test done. The test would show if she has any problems but would not be able to treat her now. We would have to wait till she is older and see if it repairs itself from what I understand. She already had the US done and she does have a slight problem w/ the top part of her kidney being what they called flappy but that should repair itself and would not be the cause of the UTI. The Dr said since something is slightly wrong w/ the top part of the kidney maybe something is wrong w/ the bottom part of the kidney which is another reason to do the VCUG. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Thank you.

All it would do put her through a painful procedure and make you worry about her. E. coli is an intestinal bacteria...how did it end up in her urine and bladder?

I did a lot of research on all of it. Since her count was pretty high they want to do the test. The test will let us know what will need to be done in the future to prevent another bad UTI or to see if she might need surgury in the future

  Re: Anyone had Issues w/ UTI in baby Reply Contact On my daughters first birthday, she ran a temp of 105 and we rushed her to the ER. After lots of tests, including a catheter, they found e-coli in her urine. They told me it was a really good thing that we had brought her there because if left untreated, it could cause kidney damage. I have since spoken with a mom who worked in a ped dialysis clinic who told me the main reason she sees kids there is due to kidney damage brought on by this type of infection. I say, have the test done. That way, at least they will know if she is prone to these so they can stay on top of them before more damage is done to your daughter's kidney. Good luck!
