    Re: starting on cereal yet??

Coben had his four month appointment on Friday. Our pediatrician told us that he is strong enough and big enough to start solids if we want but that there is no rush on it if we want to wait a couple of months. I started him this weekend and he took to it immediately. He'd see the spoon coming, open his mouth and try to grab the spoon out of my hand. I can't say it's helping him sleep any longer though.

Cash has had it 3 rimes he likes it but I think I am going to hold off. He is my last so it is hard for to rush it with no reason. Sorry about the sleep we don't have that problem. But hey it is worth a try. :) good luck.

Zach started before he was 4 months, but the peditrician said it was ok to start him because of how much he was actually eating with a mix of formula and breastmilk. He loves it. But we usually only give it to him after a bottle because we would rather him still have that. And the food on a spoon doesn't come fast enough so if he is extremely hungry he screams the whole time until he gets a bottle.

I am waiting. I have no idea how long though. My oldest wouldn't eat "real" food until he was 11-12 mos old. The other two were about 8 or 9 mos old, I think. I am in no rush.

    Re: starting on cereal yet??

I thought about starting Lilly on a little cereal soon, but I think we are going to wait until at least 6 months. Everything that I have read says that solids have nothing to do with getting babies to sleep longer, but I know you can't believe everything you read. I never noticed a difference with ODD. When we start solids, I am going to switch Lilly to formula, so I think we are waiting until she is at least 6 months. We are going to Florida in Sept and I don't want to have to deal with bottles and all that on the plane, so I'm planning on starting everything shortly after we get back from our trip. She will be about 6 and 1/2 months then.

We haven't started Nico yet... he will be 4 months on the 10th. I am surprised he isn't eating more often yet, but apparently my breast milk is keeping his belly full at this point. Since he is fine right now, I see no reason for me to rush him into eating "solids".

Lucy is still younger than most since she was born 3/30- just 3 months, but I started both my other daughters on cereal at 4 months.  Lennon took to it right away, but Abbey actual cried or just wasn't that into it until about 6 months.  So I'm not sure yet when I'll start Lucy.

it didn't help my first sleep through the night and I started alec thinking it MIGHT be the problen but it didn't help at all!. so we are waiting. even though he loved it, I am waiting until 6 months, skipping cereal and doing real food I think. I might try cereal again in a few weeks or so.

I started Alyssa on the 1st because she still eats every 2 hours....and even with cereal she still does! It does not really make them sleep longer either. She still wakes at 4 am or 5. She loves it though but I have to give her prune juice or mix the cereal with prune juice because of constipation.

I may give Elijah a bit. He's showing a lot of interest in food - gets really excited whenever it's around. It would be nice for dh to be able to feed him cereal if I go out for a while rather than having to worry about pumping, though. We'll probably see if he's interested & take it from there.

    Re: starting on cereal yet??

We go back and forth with cereal and other solids. some days he will eat it other days he won't. I know the Ped. said to wait until he is 4 months but my MIL had her kids eating solids around 2-3 months and her kids are completely healthy adults. Sooo I'm following her tips. We don't feed him alot of solids just a few baby spoons full at like every-other feeding.
