    Baby Food Recipe Post

Since so many of us are making our own baby food, I thought it would be a good idea to pin a post where we could share recipes our babies like. Smile

I'd like to share the steaming bag tip with you ladies! It really simplifies the steaming process, since steamed fruit leaves most if not all of the nutrients intact. WARNING! Place a napkin over the bag for blueberries! When they burst in the bag the spray leaves the venting slits!! It is quite messy if you don't cover the bag!

I have some good ones for when our babes are a little older and are able to eat meat and cheese, but for now all I do is steam, puree and freeze.

I didn't have this problem w/ the zip lock steam bags. Do you steam everything? Or just your bb?

    Re: Baby Food Recipe Post

I did only blueberries, the whole pint, in the gladware bags, and the steam was full of blueberry juice comng out the vent slits of the bag, I know the bags have a diff shape so maybe that is why your's didn't spray? For the tofu, I followed thw wholesome baby food recipe and have mixed it so far with bananas, and sweet potatoes. He seems to like it. You should make the whole block at once though, otherwise you"ll have to change the water its in everyday. You can freeze it in the portion size you need. I could only find my tofu in the organic aisle, and there wasn't a baby specific obrand, just look for one that is soft.

Oh and I do steam everything except bananas and avocados, and mangos depending on their ripeness/tartness. I didn't steam my apricots and they were waaaaay too tart so I wound up having to slow cook them over low heat in a saucepan. Oops!

    Austen has had:

    Pears, Applesauce, Plum/Applesauce, Peaches, Peach/Banana, Mango, Banana, Apple/Strawberry/Banana....I think that's it :)

Carrots, Green Beans, Peas, Squash, Sweet Potatoes

All of which I make.  I want to start moving him onto more, I'm just trying to figure out where to start!  :)

Super delicious treat I just tried w/ V:

Freeze a banana in its skin, then peel it and blenderize it.  It comes out the consistency of custard and is nice and cool for a great summer treat!  and you can just refreeze the extra banana, just not any that's touched the used baby spoon, obviously.  I'm going to add frozen blueberry next time!!

Since Aubrie is allergic to milk this is how I make her 'ice cream'!! But I've found that if you cut the banana into pieces and then freeze and then puree it comes out to a better consistency.

Also freezing a peeled banana (in saran wrap) is awesome for teething babies!

Is anyone using spices yet in their baby's food? So far we've tried curry, allspice, cinnamon, and chili powder. Just a tiny dash when I mix it; but I was looking for other suggestions of what others have tried.

We've done allspice, cinnamon, chili powder, and also garlic powder and onion powder.. I usually add a little bit of pepper to his veggies too.
