    Upcoming Holidays

What does everyone have planned for the upcoming holidays. Are you going away or staying at home? What kind of presents are you getting your babies for Christmas? Have you started your christmas shopping yet? Will you let your little one sit on Santa's lap?

Thought it would be nice to share these thoughts.

    Re: Upcoming Holidays

For Thanksgiving this year we are driving to my aunts house (about 1.5 hours away). I am really looking forward to it because for the past couple of years we haven't had a traditional thanksgiving dinner. I can't wait to have stuffed ham and oysters. I am not a big turkey person though. Would you give your babies any turkey at thanksgiving. I don't know if Zach can handle it or not. But i think i will bring his mesh bag so he can try it.

I have not started Christmas shopping yet and i don't know when i will. I keep seeing things that i want to get for Zach but i don't want to go overboard and get too much. I think I am getting him two big gifts. One of the gifts i want to get him is http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2341&e=detail&pcat=stacksurpriseblocks&pid=49497 i think it is neat and think he will have fun with it. I also want to get him something like this http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2341&e=detail&pcat=bulnl&pid=45350. The other thing i might get him is some kind of chair, not sure though.

I think that I will let him sit on Santa's lap this year, because i don't know if he will next year. it seems like a lot of children i see are scared to sit on santa's lap. I hope that he is not this year.

    Re: Upcoming Holidays

Oh, holidays... sigh.... DH and I both have divorced parents, so we have 4 places that want us present for holidays. His mom lives about 5 miles from us, so that is easy. My dad lives about 20 mins away, so that is easy.. His dad lives in Denver, about an hour south of us, and my mom lives in Cheyenne, about an hour north of us.. so they are the complicated ones.. I make my mom come to us, bc she lives in a little apartment and her husband is deployed, so it is easier for her to come to us than for us to come to her. She will spend the night in our guest room on Christmas Eve and we'll have our Christmas with her then. Christmas brunch, we spend at my MIL's house. We plan separate Christmas celebration days for my dad and DH's dad. It is really kind of overwhelming, and makes the holidays a bit stressful lol.

This Thanksgiving, we seem to have lost our minds.. We are driving to my Grandma's house in OKLAHOMA... about 12 hours from here (if we drive without stopping) so really about 15+ hours with a bf'ing infant.. who HATES the car.. ugh.. AND my mom (who drives me crazy..) is tagging along. If I survive, I will post about it when we get back.. lol.

For Christmas, I want the same types of toys, Katie. I actually really want to get her the stack and surprise block thing that you posted, but DH says it is too big. He is weird about having stuff laying around. I'll just have my stepmom get it, bc then he can't say no haha. :) I won't be taking Lilly to sit on Santa's lap. I don't get the fascination in the first place, and she doesn't talk, so it's not like she can ask for stuff. ODD has no interest, and never has. It's just not a tradition we participate in (thank goodness! the lines are ridiculous!). I have not started shopping yet. I am a last minute shopper, bc I can't stand to hang on to stuff. I have to just give it, so I wait. I get so excited about how much people will like their stuff lol.

Lilly will probably get a lot of clothes, and I will focus on getting her shape sorters and cause and effect type toys. I'm not sure what we'll get ODD.. Probably a game for the Wii or something. She doesn't ask for much.

    Re: Upcoming Holidays

Thanksgiving is going to be easy we are going to the in-laws but x-mas is going to be a lot tricker because my mom is coming to town and we are going to spend time with her while the baby opens his gifts then take her to my sisters house who lives oh about a min away then go to the in-laws open gifts have dinner head back to my sister's house spend time there pick my mom up and go home and crash. As for letting the baby sit on Santa's lap that is up to him. I'm planning on going early in the season and see how he reacts. I'm sure it'll be quite comical having him look at Santa and then scream.

And no i haven't started shopping yet. we usually go out on black Fridays dn this year is no different. yeah i know I'm crazy bringing a baby out at like 4am but hey the deals are tooo good to pass up especially this year with all the stores having a really bad sales year i bet the black Friday deals will be even better.

Hadn't thought about Santa. How fun! Yes, I will. I want to do portraits too, but Ry's been throwing a fit in Target's portrait studio lately. It's just that age where they phase into not liking strangers - good and bad, I guess. We're staying here. No family but us. I got a TON of stuff at a yard sale that I had on my list. Spent $14. So now, I'm just getting books, Fisher Price Farmer Says, and a xylophone - and a drum I already bought him. Everyone laughs and thinks I'm crazy to buy drums, but I had a drumset when I was 5. I made a racket, but loved it.

With respect to Santa, I should say Yes! I will TRY! DH and I haven't even decided if we will 'do' the santa claus thing, but it would be a great photo if he can keep it together :)

    Re: Upcoming Holidays

For Thanksgiving (it was two weekends ago for us) we just went to my MIL’s for dinner. . .  it’s not a holiday I would Celebrate if my husband didn’t want to also. . .

Christmas, I’m really hoping to start some of our own family memories, my husband insists on going to his moms (there by lunch and stay until bed time UGH!!!)  but I’m at the point where I would like to start our own dinner on Christmas. I HATE watching my kids opening their gifts then making my them get showered and ready to leave an hour later and not being able to play with their new toys the whole day. . .  I would like to start having a dinner here with just us if we make it out of our Pj’s great if not even better!!! I think it will be good for my kids to all help and watch make dinner rather than showing up at grammas and POOF it’s all ready done. . . .

I’m going to get the baby a few little toys and probably clothes she really doesn’t need anything so maybe I’ll just get a designer outfit that cost a small fortune that I wouldn’t normally buy but will thoroughly enjoy looking at her in hahaha

The older kids are getting a wii, a game each and nor more than $50 worth of smaller things they have asked for ( like a lava lamp LOL)

They are allowed to ask Santa for ONE gift only and “he” brings him that gift   . . .  I have the one gift rule cause I’m not comfortable with my kids asking strangers for things LOL so I think ONE gift is fair and not greedy . . .  We will bring them to sit on his lap and I get a picture even if they are crying . . .  it’s all part of the memories!!!

For thanksgiving my MIL has informed us that we are having it at our house because it is bigger. Now mind you I don't cook, my husband will be working that day until 2pm and I have 3 children under the age of 4 so I hope she plans on either babysitting or cooking Then christmas we do the gift thing at home and then go to inlaws for the day, they only live across the road.  Lucy will probably get one big toy and then clothes and a stocking stuffers, Abbey my middle girl wants stickers and Lennon the oldest wants a tinkerbell dress.  THey're easy to please at this age.

We'll probably go to my aunts in maryland for a couple days Christmas week because I have no work from Christmas eve until new year.  We will do the Santa thing because the other girls wont do it so I need at least one pic before they change Lucy's mind as well.
