    Vaccine question

My daughter just got a bunch of vaccines yesterday. She woke up about an hour ago w/ fever which doesn't concern me, but she also is very congested. My older son never had that happen and I'm not sure if this congestion is a side effect from the vaccine or something totally separate. I read somewhere that the DTaP can cause congestion but it was in a nonreliable website. I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience.

    Re: Vaccine question

The following is from handouts that I was given when my dd was immunized with the DTaP vaccine. You don't say what other vaccines your baby also received so I don't know what other side effects there might be.

    Side Effects

Mild reactions 1 to 3 days after the DTaP shots are common, especially after the 4th and 5th doses. Your child may:3

    • Have a fever.
    • Have redness or swelling where the shot was given. Sometimes an arm or leg swells for 1 to 7 days after the shot.
    • Be sore or tender where the shot was given.
    • Be fussy or tired.
    • Not feel like eating or drinking.
    • Vomit.

Mild to moderate reactions to Tdap are also common and may include:4

    • Pain, redness, and swelling where the shot was given.
    • Headache.
    • Tiredness.
    • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach ache.
    • Fever.

    Re: Vaccine question

Thank you. She also got the Hep B, Hib, Prevnar and Rototec. She is thankfully doing much better today but still running a slight temp. She actually slept lastnight and her congestion isn't quite as bad today.
