We bought a late model used car last year when my car finally died after 13 years. At the time I was supposed to be babysitting for two to three years (about the time the kids would start school full time). We knew life would be tight but manageable. Well, then I got pregnant. Plans all changed. Babysitting ended after just under a year and DH went out to get a second job. Just to make the car payment. That's all week need the extra for. Well, MIL has been looking for cars. She hasn't found anything at a dealership that she likes. We haven't put many miles on my Focus and DH jokingly mentioned that she could buy our car. She wants to, it looks like she probably will. We have to find out the logsitics of selling it to her (for cash) and getting the title cleared. We would be out from under the car payment. She would be giving us her 1999 Mercury Mountaineer since she wouldn't get much for a trade in on it anyway. Our gas would go up a tiny bit, but like I said I don't do much driving and what I do is almost all local. This would be heaven sent, seriously. If this works out DH still plans on working the 2nd job at least until the holidays are over so we can put some money into savings, driving two older cars (our other car is a 1998 Ford Contour) isn't always cheap but it can't cost what we are putting out monthly between the car payment and insurance. DH would be able to be home with the new baby more instead of working all the time and I have to admit that after three weeks of him being gone 70 or more hours a week I don't think I can keep my sanity with the kids for years like this.
Oh Tina, I hope it all works out for you!
Fingers (and toes) are crossed for you. I hope it all works out!
I will be sad to see my 2007 go and drive a 1999 but the Mountaineer looks fabulous and only has 100,000 miles on it. My MIL is going to buy it in January. She is going to get new tires put on it and an oil change and all that jazz. I am so excited.
I'm so glad your plan worked out. Cheryl
