I have been getting lectured by friends who are moms of older babies telling me that my son (who will 11 mos old in 2 weeks) should be putting his own food in his mouth, and that he should be eating much chunkier foods like bread, hot dogs, pasta, things like that. I currently only give him stage 3 breakfasts (because they are smooth enough for him to swallow easily) and then stage 2 dinners because the stage 3 foods are still too chunky for him and he gags and then ultimately vomits up whatever is in his belly. He has only once to my knowledge actually taken a yogurt melt out of my hand into his and put it in his mouth. Any other time he just throws it on the floor or just drops it. He doesn't use his thumb and forefinger to pick things up. He still rakes food off his tray. He is crawling belly up and goes really fast too!!! But I just feel like he'll be ready when he's ready. Not when others say he's ready. Am I spoiling him by continuing to feed him by spoon and not leaving it up to him? I really need more advice on this!!!
