    disney in december.....

I know korin and possibly others have disney experience... so I have a question..

what are rides that are based on disney movie themes? (like peter pan I know) we have started wednesday movie night and I am trying to make sure I show movies before we go to let him know what we are experiencing. :)

I will have a 4 1/2 year old and a 9 month old. I assume Eli will be 41 inches by the time we go. is he big enough to ride any of the larger roller coasters?

I don't know if you mean Disneyland, Disneyland Paris or Disney World but here's the link to Disneyland's attractions: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/parks/listing?name=DisneylandParkAttractionsListingPage and here's the link for Disney World's attractions which also lists the height requirements: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/attractions/ Disney Paris info (we went in 2002 so it's hard to remember what all we saw!) http://us.experience.disneylandparis.com/families-with-toddlers-and-kids/index.xhtml Off-hand, I remember going on a Nemo ride at DisneyWorld, Buzz Lightyear at Disneyland, Star Tours (bsed on Star Wars movies), Dumbo, a Little Mermaid live show, Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, and Splash Mountain which is based on the "Song of the South" movie and books. I wish we could go, I just love Disney parks!

    Re: disney in december.....

I have been to Disney World more times than I can remember (we go about 2x per year).  Check out the main Disney website, http://home.disney.go.com/parks/ , and they have a listing of all the parks, rides & most everything you may need to know about the parks & resorts.  Another incredible website all about Disney is www.wdwinfo.com .

We are going on Aug 30th again for 2 weeks & can't wait!  Izzy will be tall enough this time to go on most of the rides & Little Bri is old enough now where he will be totally interactive & excited!

    Re: disney in december.....

How fun!  I know you guys will have a blast.    I think all of the websites are GREAT to check out, you can get lots of info. from them and people that have been there a LOT more than anyone else! LOL   Also, they will be having their Very Mickey Christmas Party going on too in the Magic Kingdom,  I''ve never been but have always wanted to...looks like a lot of fun, but is a separate admission, you might want to look into that (they do the "snow" on main street and all that).   Keep in mind that you don't want to overload yourself either.  Are you going just one day or a couple?    Will you just do Magic Kingdom or hit the other parks too?   There really is a LOT to do, so pick what you most definitley want to see (2 or 3 things that a "must") and then let yourself be flexible...after that going to things that have the shortest lines, that sort of thing.      Of course if you are spendign a few days there, then it will be a lot easier & you can pick and choose what you do on different days.

Anyways, if you have any other questions let me know...you guys will definitley have a GREAT time!  Oh - are you staying at a resort right there, or off site?

    Re: disney in december.....

we are paying for the christmas party. :) I have been hearing mixed reviews but want to go. Also me and my DH are going to the nativity reading with dinner before at epcot.... we will have park hopper passes and are staying at a fort wilderness cabin. we want to spend 2-3 hours in the morning and later afternoon probably at whatever park we want plus go to the movie at ft wilderness once. we are only there 5 nights. so it's still a lot. but we want to go at a low key pace. and yes, I want to hit whatever parks that we want to and what we want to see...

we (me and DH) have both been before so we are okay with skipping some of the bigger coasters and such. We just have to play around with it and see. of course, if there are some newer ones we might want to do those.... anyway, it's a big feet and we want to keep it simple and fun for our kids, not dragging them to everything. so ANY hints and help you can give on what we should skip, what we must do, etc would be great!

I have found some great sites and have been trying to make plans. lol. it's HARD though!

    Re: disney in december.....

Let's see...here are some other thoughts.  If you can manage to get out really early in the morning at least one day for MK (Magic Kingdom) then do it!  Get to the park entrance by 8:30 am (factor in tram time & all that to get there early).  Then you'll be literally one of the first people in the park.  That first hour will be AWESOME.  Plus, they do a fun little "welcome" song for all the people waiting with all the characters, it's really cute and takes place right in front of the train station that you can see while waiting in line.  Anyways, if you get there early, hit Dumbo if that's one you want to do because that will literally be the ONLY time of day that there's no line for it.  When we go early we head straight for teh back of the park to fantasy land (the best area of small kiddos) to do Dumbo & all those classic rides (ie. Peter Pan, It's a Small World, Winnie the Pooh).  Anyways,  also, if you want to do Space Mountain or one of the other popular roller coasters go get a fast pass first so that you can get that done early, and then that will still leave you able to do another fast past later.  Fast pass is the way to go for those popular rides that have it- that is something you'll want to research online (which rides have fast pass and which don't).

I think Epcot is GREAT also, and they'll have the Holidays around the World going on too.  Oh - and you should try to catch the candlelight processional (the later show, when it's dark) it's amazing!   They will have famous actors/singers, etc. read the bible stories and such...it's really nice & puts you in the Christmas spirit for sure! :)  Check out the info. on that online too.   Oh & I would definitely do a character breakfast if you can swing it!  They are great & a great time to get to meet the characters up close.  You can do them in Disney or any of the area hotels (which is cheaper) there are many that offer them.

Ok, that's really it for now....hope I didn't overload you too much! :)

    Re: disney in december.....

We went to the Very Merry Christmas Party the year before last & IMO it is a bit overpriced for the extras you get.  But, saying that, it is defintiely something you should do once.  They have the snow on Main St, Santa, Christmas parade, cookies & hot cocoa throughout the park.  That is really it.  The kids were really too young (Izzy was 2 and a half & Little Bri was 6 mos) since it starts a bit late for little ones!  We have also been to the Halloween Party when Izzy was about 18 mos and that was FUN!  It is the same thing as the Christmas Party, but is all geared toward Halloween.  The deorate really great & there is also trick or treating through the whole park, everyone is dressed up & they have really cute activities for kids & adults too!  I would defintely do that one again when the kids are a bit older & can really enjoy it (and stay awake that late)!

As far as the character breakfast, Chef Mickeys(Contemporary Resort) is the best!  They have Mickey & friends in chefs uniforms and all the traditional breakfast foods.  We have been to every character meal that is offered in Disney & we love Chef Mickeys!   2 other character meals that we like is Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom) for lunch. They have Winnie the Pooh & friends visiting the tables and the food is actually pretty good.  The other is Liberty Tree Tavern (Magic Kingdom) for lunchor dinner.  They have Goofy, Chip & Dale, etc. and the food is homestyle type (turkey, beef, mashed potaoes, mac  cheese, etc) and is served family style.  The kids reallly liked it!

I agree with Korin on getting to Magic Kingdom early 1 day at least to experience the opening ceremony.  We actually do that with all the parks during our stays since they each do a different opening ceremony wich a really cute!

We are on our way there for 2 weeks at the end of August & the kids are really excited this time!  They are both old enough now to have fun together!  for the fist week we are staying at the Kidani Village at the Animal Kingdom Villas and are getting a 1 bedroom with a Savannah view.  We will actually see the animals from our deck/windows.  The other week we are staying at the Beach Club to take advantage of the convenience to Epcot & Hollywood Studios (a short walk to each) and also they have the best pool inall of Disney.  It is a sand bottom pool & is just beautiful!  We love it there!

I will write more when I can think of more good stuff!

    Re: disney in december.....

Amy - that is great that you got the dining plan!  That being included will save you lots of $$!!!   Food can add up very quickly.  I think between the websites, Rachel's tips & mine you'll be good to go! Wink  You will have a TON of fun.   Another random tip for you, if you take the tram at all to/from the parks or the resorts, you can wait up front to get into the cabin with the conducter!  Sometimes you have to wait for one or 2 trains, but it's fun!  Definiteily would recommend that especially if Eli is into trains.  We do that pretty much every time we go, as long as there's not a long wait for it.  OH, and assumign you have freezers in your cabins, I would freeze water bottles to take with you during the day.  The winter won't be as hot, but if you have a frozen bottle, by the aftenroon you'll have a nice cold bottle of water still.  Speaking of heat - make sure you have lots of sunscreen! Yes  There are also a few splash areas too (for sure at MK and Epcot),so you might want to toss in a bathing suits for the kids to run around in (if they're hot) Leighton always enjoys those!   If I think of any other random tips, I'll let you know.  And if you think of anythign else, ask away! Big Smile

I agree on fastpass, much needed! And if you want to, you can take the kids 2 times with the fast pass rider swap. One time with you, and one time with hubby. We did that with Katelyn and she got he best of both worlds.

You can also bring food in, Maybe some extra snacks might be a good option with 2 kids.

Katelyn LOVED the light parade at night, it is a must see for our family.

We're heading there in December, when will you be there?

    Re: disney in december.....

we are going to disney Dec 26th through Jan 2nd. So all this info has been great for me. For the mom's who have done the character meals, does anyone have a favorite of the princess ones? Melody is obsessed with princesses so I'm trying to decide which one to go to.
