    How is everyone doing?

Just wondering how everyone is doing with the quit smoking? I am down to 5 a day and sometimes its 12 hours in between each cigarette. i am going to a resort with my family next week and my cousins will be there and i definetely can't smoke around them so i'm hoping that is the motivation i need to quit. i'll let you know how it goes.

I was hoping to quit while at our inlaws! I was smoking 2-3 a day. We came back today and I am up to 5. Dh is leaving on Saturday for army training and I am hoping to quit soon. I would go almost 18 hours without one and I was fine...and felt really bad when I smoked one. I think I am just about ready to quit! Good luck and hope you have a good time at the resort!

I know what you mean about feeling bad! Last weekend my husband was attached to my hip and I WON'T smoke around him so I would go 12-18 hours without one and then when I did it was harsh on my lungs. I'm hoping that next week will be my quit week but I also know that i'll find time to "sneek" off and have one. I have been good about keeping to the 5 a day rule but on my days off I get up to 8 a day - yikes.

    How far along are you?

    Re: How is everyone doing?

I quit the day I found out I was pregnant with my 1st and it never bothered me a bit for 10 whole months... with my 2nd it took me a month or so and I would still hang around smokers so I could smell the second hand smoke to curb the cravings... THIS time though, I'm 4 months now and I absolutely CAN'T quit! I went from a pack a day down to 8 - 10 a day so I feel good about that, but I want OFF them and I can't do it alone. My doc said it was better to smoke a few a day rather than to cause myself 'undue stress' by forcing myself to go cold turkey after smoking for 15+ years... does anyone else feel the same?

I am 24 weeks preg and have been smoking my whole pregnancy. I talked to my doctor today at my appt and he did not lecture me, he said he knows how hard it is to quit and I should just try to cut down. I feel awful for smoking with my unborn baby but I am a weak person when it comes to smoking. Besides the stress I have right now in my life it is very hard for me to quit. Good luck to you. I will keep trying.

Oh I so know how you feeling, I stopped in the begining and did really well, two whole months not feeling like smoking - then I found out my dad has Parkensons, and my gran was in hospital, so the NO SMOKING went out the window very quickly...... I hate it and my little one jumps around when I do have one so that makes me feel even worce but I can not stop. I am living in Guinea West Africa at the moment (hubby working here) and I will go home to my folks to give birth.... I leave in a week today so when I get home I will stop but at the moment I am getting so upset cause I am leaving that I am now smoking more than I was.... but I keep thinking it is only one more week to go then I stop. And I want to stop for good, I want this to be the last time I eva smoke. The one problem is my best mate smokes and my husband, he has to quit too, so being around them you just want one..... I am 27 weeks and have one week left to smoke, I will keep you up dated thou.....How do you make it stick thou? I know I can live with out it, but when I do start drinking again I know I will have a problem, or do you just never drink agian???? I need some help here.

I have been trying to quit, but it isn't that easy. I am usually at 3-5 a day. Well that is until I get screwed by work again. Anyways. I find the best way to do things is to have few drags off a the cigarette and cut off the end and safe it for later. This helps to cut down on the cost and I don't feel like I am missing a full one.

Carlin, i want to say, enough is enough, make the disicion, its easy! When you say to yourself stop(!) then stop fully and not with one eye closed. I smoked for 7 years 2 packs a day. I was tired of not being able to breath, always smelling badly, teeth yellow etc. Was drinking a lot too. And yes stopped drinking also! if you make the dicision to stop smoking, then do it fully! Simple dont think about it. Instead think about your child(ren). Its so much better for them to grow up with clean lungs! You know that its even worse for them then for you - health wise i mean? I wish you all the best, most off all, strenght in making the dicision to stop! Once you maked it, dont look back! You will find some good anti-smoke organisations here: www.parentinginformed.com Let me know how you are doing pvannieuwenhuizen@i.ua Best Wishes Patrick
