    exercise

I am a very tired mommy of a 17 mos old boy that has never slept a night in his life and a rambunctious 4yr old girl and therefore I never get a good nights rest.. ok so here's my dilemma- I am not happy with my body right now and I crave junk food and eat it and dont exercise ... I always feel like I will become way too exhausted and I can't get the motivation to start.. Do you think if I start exercising I will get more energy or wear myself down? what are any opinions. any suggestions as to what to start out with? Paula

Hey There, I am a mommy to a very busy 16 mnth old and also very un happy w/the way that I look.  I recently joined Curves and I have to say I just love it.  Even if I am dead tired going for that 30 mins really gets me going I have so much energy when I am done w/the work out.

    Re: exercise

I have a super active 15 month old boy too, so I understand how tiring they can be!  It would depend on why you don't have energy.  It seems like you might have more energy if you started eating better.  Foods with high fat and sugar content make anyone feel sluggish.  Maybe you could start there and see if that gave you more energy.  I'm also a firm believer that energy creates more energy.  Even if I'm tired, sometimes I'll put on some fun, upbeat music, grab my son, and we'll dance all around the house.  It makes both of us feel good and it's great exercise without even leaving the house.  Also, fresh air seems to really perk me up as well.  Take a 15 minute walk.  That shouldn't be enough to wear you down but could give you some more oxygen, burn some calories and give you some extra energy.  Yoga is also great for increasing energy.  Especially back bending.  This is as simple as standing up, putting your hands on your lower back, and gently arching your back while looking up towards the sky.  You can also lie on your belly and slowly push yourself up with your hands to create the same effect.

But truly, I think that diet is the place to start here.  Go to the grocery store and get lots of fruits and veggies.  Grab those and a glass of water or herbal tea when you want to munch.  Get some whole grains and have oatmeal with fruit for breakfast.  Avoid anything with a lot of fat or sugar.  Take a quality mulitvitamin (and consider getting your iron level checked by your doctor).

I hope you're feeling more energetic soon!

    Re: exercise

I am just lacking energy cause I don't get quality uninterrupted sleep cause my DS almost 18 mos old is still waking a couple or a few times a night depending on the night and my 4 1/2 yrold gets up every so often too so I have been sucked into the bad eating and laziness cause I am tired so am in a rut and I know I need to pull myself out but it sure is a hard thing to do at this point! thanks for your encouragement! paula

Something that I have done in the past is start a vitamen regimen and only drink sodas every once in a while. The more sugar you have, the more sluggish you'll be later in the day. Even if you drink diet sodas, you can feel this way.

    Re: exercise

The thing is to start slowly.  Make small changes and soon your body will get used to them.  Like if you drink more then one soda a day start by cutting out one a day for the first week.  Then cut out another and continue till you now longer crave them.  Start adding more fruits and veggies to your food choices.  Also try walking around the house doing exercise 15 min at a time.  I started going to this one website on Jan 1 of this year and have already lost 20 pounds.  No dieting involved.  Its all about making small changes that will eventually become habit.  Also about living a healthier lifestyle.  Check it out.  There are 2 diff sites but they are very similar.  You will get lots of support with your weight loss.  http://bodywisethedietfreeway.com/   http://www.thebiggestloserclub.com/forum3/index.php  Check them out,  they are both free.
