    baby sleeping more than usual

Hello everyone. I have a concern about my baby. he's 12 weeks today but for the past 3 days he's been sleeping more than usual. He sleeps 7-8 hours a night without waking for a feeding and takes about three 3 hour naps during the day. He used to only take 3 30-45 minute naps. besides a droopy eye (due to a clogged tear duct) he's fine, eating fine and wetting and pooping fine. should i be worried or is this normal? please help me, i currently have a cold but he has no signs of one and i'm breastfeeding so i think that protects him. i don't know how much of a risk he's in. Also, i'm putting brastmilk in dis droopy eye because he was having some discharge, it's been clearing up but i don't know how often i should put it and how often i should massage the tear duct.

I'm pretty sure that is very normal.  Babies have major growth spurts at 3wks, 6wks, 3mo, and 6mo.  Sounds like your baby is around the 3mo growth spurt.  When they are in a growth spurt that have a couple days of major sleeping and also a couple days of major eating.  As long as your baby seems normal besides the sleeping I wouldn't be concerned.  Always check with your ped though if you are really concerned.

As for the tear duct, my daughter had the same thing... with both of hers but it was cleared up within a couple months.  I rubbed them any chance I remembered to, so it was at least a couple times a day (of course definitely make sure hands are clean!).

thank you so much...he's all better now, his tear duct cleared up in a few days and he started sleeping normally again, but now he's waking up 2-3 times during the night, but i think he's starting to teethe because he's cranky and only calms down when i wrap my finger in a burp cloth and let him chew on it.

Hi there. My daughter was 12 weeks old on Friday and done the exact same thing for two nights. Instead of sleeping for 3-4 hours straight at a time of a night she was sleeping for a little over 6 hours straight. I went to the clinic on the Friday and the nurse said it was normal for her to do that as it is a growth spurt, so dont panic. I also breastfeed.
