    how late?

Those of you with hypothyroidism, or who know something about this, can you help??  :)

Since I just had surgery 10 days ago...how late should I allow my period to be before I "waste" money on a test? We don't have alot of money and DH will freak if I ask for several of the $1 ones because he thinks I overuse them. *rolls eyes*  I asked him how long I should wait and he said wait until my NEXT period.  That being said, I think that's way too late.  So, how long past my period's "due date" should I test?  Currently only one day late, which is nothing, and I'll be asking my doc(surgeon) tomorrow what her opinion is, but I thought I'd get another mom's opinion on it!

    Thanks!

I don't know much about hypothyroidism, however, I would imagine having a gland removed is going to screw up your period.  It does involve hormones, and your body has to re-adjust.  I know it's hard, but I wouldn't even think about it right now.  I would imagine that there's a chance you could skip a period.

I realize you're excited about becoming pregnant again, so I know it's hard to just not think about it.  I just know that when I just relaxed about it, I felt much better, and that's when I did get pregnant.

You know that I would tell DH to shove it and test 38 times anyway, just to be sure!!! LOL! But you did just have surgery, so your body AND your hormones are all outta whack. Lets hope that this one is just a scare, and play it safe! PLEASE update us ASAP when you get back from your doc appt. this morning. I need to know if number 3 is on the way for you!

    Re: how late?

Well, I started my period this morning.  It's still really slight, but we'll see if it picks up!  Doc didn't schedule a test, but did say that my hormones are NOT messing it up because it takes 3-4 weeks for the hormone levels to drop enough for it to be an issue.  So, that's not a problem.  Must have just been out of whack for one reason or another...past 3 periods have been that way.  Late 2 days, early 2 days, late 2 days....let's see what happens with the next period!

Thanks! I'm glad things are still "normal" and I didn't waste a test! :)  I'd like to save it for when we do TTC.    We're still going to wait.  I need to get regulated on some hormone replacement meds.  Because my whole thyroid was removed, I no longer have thyroid hormone being made by my body, so I will need to take it via a pill every day.  It's gonna suck, BUT it's gonna make my life alot easier, I think.  Once I get regulated on it and things are going good, then we'll TTC.  I'm guess I'll get the IUD removed in Feb or March.  I was hoping for Jan/Feb, but it's really looking more like Feb/March and maybe even April.  Just in time for travel to start!
