    Twins with IUI

I just wanted to let you all know that I am a huge advocate for Intrauterine Insemination.  I conceived my twins this way with the help of clomid/ovidrel and anonymous donor sperm.  I will happily answer any questions that I can.

We didn't get pregnant until my 4th cycle.  I started on 50mg of clomid but my last cycle I was on 125 mg.  I was told 3-5 cycles is pretty standard.

We tried for 5 years on our own and nothing happened. We were referred to a Reproductive Endocronologist. We did Clomid and on the first round got pg. Two years later with our 2nd baby we did Clomid again for about 3 cycles and nothing. Our RE suggested injections. We did 2 rounds of injections followed by back to back IUI's and conceived. (I had an IUI session the day before I ovulated and then came back the next afternoon and did a 2nd IUI). Both pregnancies were single pg. And with our 3rd and final miracle, I got pg without the use of any fertility meds. Actually, our 2nd pg could have been twins b/c of the injections but only one egg fully matured.

Hello Ihv4loves, We have a 4 year old boy and have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years now without success. We are considering IUI and both of us really like to have a baby girl this time. Can I ask what is the sex of your babies? Is it true that with IUI you are more likely to have boys than girls? Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you. Huy Duc

    Re: Twins with IUI

Hello, I am from the august pregnancy board. I conceived twice using IUI. Once with clomid injections, and once (this current pregnancy!) without any medicine. I wanted to post regarding the sex of the babies. I am a carrier of a disorder passed on to baby boys, so both times I asked for "girl sperm." The success rate of this is about 70%. The sperm is centrifuged, and the heavier "girl " sperm is then separated from the "boys." There seems to be a more accurate method, but it was not available where I live. I think it's called Microsort... where the sperm is weighed to determine the gender... I don't know how accurate my description is, it's been a while since I looked up this information... but if I remember correctly, microsort is available in the US.

    As for my experience.....

My first pregnancy .... I tried four times to get pregnant with IUI and clomid, without success. Then asked to have a change of donor (I had read somewhere that it's possible to have compatibility issues, and since I was using a donor it made sense to try someone else.) I got pregnant the following cycle. I had a miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks, still tried to get pregnant the following month, without success, but then "got" pregnant the following month. I did have a little boy, but fortunately he was not affect by the disorder I am a carrier of. (so as you can see 30 % chance ... the little guy still got though! LOL and I tried four times with one donor, and three times with the second for a total of seven months)

My current pregnancy.... I became pregnant from the very first time with IUI and without any additional medication. My cycles were very regular, and my doctor wanted to try it and see... I found out last week that I am pregnant with a little girl and due in August!

I hope that this information can help someone a little ... feel free to contact me via the August board if I can answer any other questions. And good luck to all of you who are trying to conceive....Yes

Thanks "veryhappymommy" for your post. It looks like with IUI you are more likely to have boys than girls! I have tried natural IUI (with no medication) twice without success. This time doctor gave me clomid tablets and as a result I got three eggs (I got only one egg with no clomid). If I'm lucky I may have twin boys this time. We've already got one boy and if this happens we will have a full house with non-stop noise and chaos! Thanks again and good luck with your current pregnancy!

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous reply. I am from Vietnam and 'Microsort' is not available here. I've already asked but they said they wouldn't do it for choice of sex. So will have to rely on luck!
