    Belly Button Peircing..

Hello, I am 31 weeks pregnant, and I have my belly button peirced, I took it out at like 24 weeks, and it's been fine until now, it hurts and its swallon big time, Ive had it for over a year now. But has anyone else had this problem? If so what'd you do with it? Did you put anything on it? Ive been cleaning it everynight. My mom suggests stuff that helps heal wounds and infections and all that stuff, but i'm scared that will also HELP it close.

I haven't had this problem (don't have my belly button pierced), but if it's red and swollen and if there's any discharge or yucky puss-like stuff coming out of it, then it's infected.  I would bring it up with your doctor, definitely put some Neosporin or other topical cream.  Yes, it may close up, but that's much better than risking a bad infection.  If you don't do something about it, I think the infection can get bad and could eventually be harmful to the baby.  So, when it comes down to it, the piercing doesn't really matter, your baby does.  Just do what you need to do in order to heal it, even if that means having the piercing close up.  (but ask your doc, it may not be a bad infection, it may be something you can clear up pretty easily, and save your piercing)

hydrogen peroxide works great for cleaning peircings and clearing slight infections/puss/irritation and it will not help close the piercing.  I agree talk to you doctor, though-make sure it is not serious...

Bactriban works great too! But from personal experience mine grew together anyway. If I want it back afterward I will just have it re-peirced.

I'm sure you already had your baby by now, but this may help others in the future. I had to take my belly button ring out when I had my son 8 years ago because I only had it for a year and I got way too big. And since I only had it a year it closed and I had to get it repeirced. Now I am pregnant again and it has been 8 years since I got it repeirced. I also had to take it out about 2 months ago (i'm 33 weeks now). It was stretching and started to become red. I did buy a maternity belly button ring but that cause it to become infected. So now, I just take my old ring and put some A&D ointment on it and put it through the hole about once a week to make sure it doesn't close. Hydrogen peroxide it not recomended because this is a peircing and it is not just a epidermis wound or a surface wound. Just keep it clean using Dial soap (not the fancy smelling ones). Any other questions let me know I will try and answer....

i am only 4 months along but i have had infected belly buttons a lot. what my artist recomended was the stuff they give out when you get your ears pirced, most of it is alchohol free, and gentil on the skin. he said neverto used the neosporin brand stuff, something about it will affect how it heals and may cause rejection, but it may just be his oppinon. hope this helps

I took mine out since i tested positive. so no issues with mine, i do suggest that you DONT use peroxide to clean it, after the first intial use peroxide kills new cells that are forming, and you need those so that it will heal. also putting neosporen and letting it air dry is good. try not to keep it bandaged up alot. I tried on a ring the other day (33 weeks along now) and it still went in no problems. i had mine for a couple of years though. don't worry about it closing. the main thing is dont put any rings in until it's nice and healed good luck T
