Cord blood donation?

Reply Contact I have heard that there are places who want cord blood donations for cancer treatments, does anybody know of one of these companies? I tried to search for it online but with no luck. Reply Contact My mom was just mentioning this to me as well.  I know she referred me to ABC news in Los Angeles.  I guess they did a feature on it.  I haven't had a chance to get to their website yet.  But if I do, I'll come back and post. I'm not sure if "Donate Life" (which deals with organ donation) has any info on this either, but that might be another place to go looking. Stephanie

It is for Cord Blood Donor Foundation. http://www.cordblooddonor.org/ I find it wonderful that you are interested in donating your babies cord blood. We actually paid to bank both of our boys and we are also doing it with our next one (a little girl). Thank you for your generosity, most people would not even think of donating it even if they weren't planning on using it. I think this is something that hospitals should atomatically do (even if they have to ask the parents permission). Think of all of the wonderful research they could do if every baby that is born donated their cord blood (unless the parents wanted to bank it). Good luck to you.

I chose to donate it because if there is a chance that it could save just one life, why throw it away? You know? My main motivation though, is the fact that my 9 year old niece has just been diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. Our DNA doesn't match, so she can't use it, but someone can. They will you send you the kit in the mail, and you just have to bring it with you when you go into labor, and let the doctor know that you are going to donate it. I don't remember what website I was using or what company it was. I wish I would have saved it now.

Reply Contact A lot..I think what I read on the site advertised here was like $1500-2000.  They will do payments, but then you still have to pay a fee every year to keep it in there.  I think it's a shame it costs so much as I'm sure that hinders a lot of people from storing such as myself.  I am thinking about donating too.
