    Group Strep B

I was positive during my last pregnancy so I had to have the iv with the antibiotics. Well I really did not like having that at all and it also caused them to give me something in my iv about 30 minutes before I delivered which caused me to be real drowsy. I really do not want to go through all that again so can anyone tell me what things I can do or get to make sure I test negative. Thanks soo much!

After testing + with my 3rd and 4th, I loaded up on vitamin C and acidophilus and ate a lot of yogurt at the end of my 5th pregnancy. I managed a - test that time! I didn't do anything last time (#6...not sure why I didn't...), and ended up testing + again. I am 34wks with this one, and have started on the Vit C, Acidophilus and Yogurt, and will also start Grapefruit Seed Extract next week at the advice of Laura (don'tswiminthemainstream). Hoping for the - test again; I should know in a couple of weeks! : )

Just thought I'd follow up on my last post in case anyone was interested. Smile

I never got around to ordering the GSE (love preggo brain), but did use the acidophilus and vit C theory and apparently it worked! Got my negative result today! Yay!

About half way down the second link is the remedy I used- the tea tree oil and olive oil on a small tampon. I did that leading up to my GBS test, and also occassionally between the test and the birth (because testing negative does not mean you'd necessarily be negative at the time of birth, just as testing positive doesn't automatically mean you'd test positive at the time of birth, either).

The chance of transmitting GBS is only 1 in 200 if you are positive and don't receive antibiotics. If GBS is something that makes you uncomfortable enough to not want to ignore it, you could try natural remedies before the test, or natural remedies if you test positive and then retest. If you feel that the antibiotics are important for you to have, if you are birthing in a hospital you could show up in early labor for the first round of abx, leave, and then return once labor picks up for the second round. You could also have a hep lock so that you won't be tethered to an IV pole, and have it removed once the abx are complete.

My doula told me that there are natural alternatives to the IV-I have not gone over them with her yet as I have my test on monday...but if I test positive  I will definitely be asking her what those methods are so I don't have to have a machine hooked up to me!  Also, my midwife told me that I could refuse the test and that if I did so they would just want to observe my baby for the first 48 hours after birth to assess any risks-they wouldn't have to take the baby away that whole time, but keep it under observation-so that is an option too-at least at my hospital.
