    Early pregnancy worries

I am only 6 weeks along, but I am already scared about this pregnancy. My pregnancy with my first DD in 7/00 was uneventful, perfect, and completely natural. With m second DD in 12/03 I went through a marginal previa, level 2 u/s to check for Down's, and fluctuating blood pressure/lots of swelling issues at the end before an induction, and subsequent emergency C section. Both girls are perfect and wonderful. This time, with #3, I am worried because of all the risk factors I have. I am overweight, my blood pressure has fluctuated over the past year (lots of new job stress and some sicknesses 6 months ago), and my mother has just been dx as diabetic. I am very afraid of the potential blood pressure issues, even though I have never had preeclamsia previously. I am trying to rest and take it easy when I can, and my diet has been very healthy overall, but I am very worried about being in trouble later, or being scolded every time I go to appointments. Anyone else understand?

    Re: Early pregnancy worries

I completely empathize with you! I am 6 months with baby #2, a boy and we have a 3 year old daughter. I have similar health issues as you, with the exception of the previa. Although I have had 2 miscarriages, so that adds a little added stress. I also struggle with high blood pressure and when I was pregnant with our daughter my blood pressure got high and I had to be induced, which didn't work so I had a c-section. I, too am overweight and am so freaked out about gaining too much weight, I gained 20 with our daughter. Anyway, it makes it hard to enjoy, we can't just eat whatever we want and not worry about it, like some of my friends who seem to never stop eating and gain 70 pounds. I try to walk when I can, the tiredness gets in the way of that sometimes. I know what you mean about being scolded when you go to the doctor-my doctor is female and very encouraging, but I still have anxiety about going in and her saying "Wow, you gained too much weight last month, get a grip on it!" Even though I have only put on 6 pounds so far I am worried that if I put on too much I will have problems, b/c I know that normally you gain more weight in the last trimester, I don't want to put on too much now, you know? I actually have my 6 month appt. this morning and am worried about what the scale will say. Hang in there, it's nice to know that there are other pregnant moms who struggle with this issue. We can encourage each other, which is nice, my DH listens, but doesn't really understand, plus he worries then, too. It's good to talk to you! Take care and try to enjoy being pregnant, right??!!

I hope you appointment today goes well! In all honesty, I was never thin to begin with with my first pregnancy, and bigger with my second, but I always managed to stay within the weight guidelines until the edema at the end. In fact, my track record is usually losing weight during the first trimester, which I hate to admit, but I am hoping happens this time as well. In each of my pregnancies, I have been lucky to not have eaten tons, and craved things like fruit, so that has always been good too. I have not gone to the doctor yet,but in my past experiences the doctors at my hospital have always been great-it's the nurses that freak me out! :) I try to keep in perspective that I have seen and known women much larger than me that have had successful pregnancies, but it is still hard. I have not really talked with my hubby yet, but he is such a laid back guy, that he does not worry about anything. I have just been praying and trying to think of all of the positive things I am doing. I would love to continue to communicate with you!

    Re: Early pregnancy worries

Me too! It's always nice to have someone else to talk to. None of my friends have the same issues as me, so they really don't get it, so I am glad that I ran into you! And my appointment this morning went well. I have actually lost a pound, I am not sure how that happened!! And my blood pressure looked great, so that was good news. I had my OB appt and an ultrasound and things looked good. He's growing appropriately, which is a concern, I think because with a history of high blood pressure the baby can not get enough blood, so it grows slow, I think?? But all looked good. It's a relief for today anyway:) I know that anything can happen at any point, so I try to trust God, it's all in His hands anyway, me worrying about it won't change anything. I am like you too with what I crave, healthy things with this pregnancy, with my daughter, mostly junkfood, bad bad!! With this one I could eat a relish tray as my meal! Weird, but good! I did have a huge craving though the other day for a Big Mac and fries:/ It was sooo good! I try to save food like that for when I really get a craving, it's so worth the wait, even though it's like half of my daily calories!!! LOL! Yeah, those nurses can be outspoken, let's say:) I don't know whether the drs just think it but don't say it b/c they know how fragile pregnant women are with the hormones and things and they think if they say something women may take it to extremes. I have known women like that, skinny ones, so afraid to gain weight. Whatever!! Are you going to wait a little while to go to the dr? I waited until 10 weeks b/c I figured all they would do is another pregnancy test and confirm what I already knew, I decided to wait and save $25! Anyway, I should go, my daughter is napping and I need to start some laundry:) But, I would love to continue to talk with you too!! Have a great rest of the day!

    Re: Early pregnancy worries

Glad to hear about your good appointment! I have not called to make an initial visit yet. I think I will wait a little bit yet. I did, however, do one of those blood pressure cuffs at Target today, and was sad to see that it was elevated. :( I am praying that my nerves are part of it! I would love to communicate, and if you feel comfortable, you could private message me as well. Have a good nite!

I will pray for you as well, that the blood pressure was nerves and does not become an issue. Also, I am new to this community board stuff, so when you say private message, what does that mean? Talk to you soon!

If you click on my screen name, it should allow you to email me directly rather than through the board. Just thought it might be easier than going through the board. Plus, a better way to get to know one another vs. using a pubic board. Talk to you soon!
