    Laila Ali

My ICAN group posted this and it's nice to see some celebrities bringing some attention to homebirth.  Also, I just love the name Laila!  If we have a girl, she will most likely be Laila or Leila.

That's wonderful! A little put off by her comment on  breastfeeding -- but the rest was great!

Awesome about the birthing and BFing advocacy....I wonder when she DOES plan on stopping? Meanwhile, I don't think TONS of women who are still nursing a toddler ever really PLAN to, it just happens, and who knows, it MAY happen to HER, lol!

I actually read this article in my magazine a little while ago... I think it was a September issue.  I don't think many women ever really plan BFing that long, especially in American society.  I'm all about BFing my baby as long as he will, but at some point tandem feedings just force your breasts to stop producing on their own, unless you push yourself to produce more milk with pumping.  I think more often than not, when the baby becomes less interested in nursing, and does it only for comfort, its just easier to say "Ok this is the beginning of weaning," and you go from there; most women find this age to be anywhere from 15-24 months!  Its all in the individual, but I think its fine for her to say, "I don't want to nurse my baby at 3 years old" some people get weirded out by it, regardless of having used their breasts for their natural function and not sexual objects, I guess it can be weird for some.

Tandem nursing actually makes your body produce MORE milk. You don't have to pump. Many moms of multiples exclusively breastfeed their babies into the toddler years. Heck, I have even read of moms of quads EBF'ing their babies.

I think its different for everyone.  There's a girl on my BB that was tandem feeding her 24 month old and eventually it wasn't a "spray" anymore.... but this could be pregnancy related.
