I am 24 weeks with a cerclage and on strict bed rest. My CL is measuring at 1.6cm which is alot better than what it was before the cerclage (.4mm). My high risk doctor wants to give me steriods for the babys lungs next week she doesnt think he will carry ne longer than 32wks. Not sure what to do. Neone else ever been in this position?

I am 25 weeks pregnant with a cerclage also. I received steroid injections last week. I am also a labor and delivery nurse. We give the shots all the time. It is much better to be safe. If you do deliver early, it does make a big difference for the baby.

I've had them with both of my pregnancies. My first delivered at 28 weeks and my twins were born last Monday at 24 weeks. The shots make a huge difference for their lungs! My daughter was only on her ventilator for less than a day and one of my twins was off in about 3 days. The other has been on and off of his ventilator, but he has an ASD that's causing him problems. He came off it again today. I would absolutely get the shots! If you want some more info on them, go on to the March of Dimes website. They have some studies on there about their effectiveness. The only thing is that I think read that they really work best if you deliver within two weeks of getting them. I need to double check that, but I'm pretty sure that I've read that.

I went into preterm labor with my son 2 years ago, and I was given ths steroid shots to be safe while the drs tried to stop my contractions.  My son ended up being delivered early via emergency c-section at 33 weeks.  He stopped moving, and his heartrate had slowed drastically.  He was in the NICU for 2 weeks, but only on a ventilator for 2 hours.  The shots made a huge difference, and I'm glad the dr ordered them.  I'm high risk again because of preeclamsia and I'm sure I'll end up getting steroid shots again this time.

My last pregnancy they gave me the shots after my water broke at 29 weeks. They usually need to be 2 of them 24 hours apart. They got the second one into me only about an hour before he was born. He was breathing though and had no lung issues, I think the shots were a huge part in helping him make it. I think they are a good idea, but it should be close to when you think you are due.

I just received steroid shots for my baby's lungs this week. I got two shots. However, I was not given a cerclage because my uterus is active...so I got a fetal fibronectin test done (which came back negative) and I am now on bed rest. I am also 24 weeks. I am happy that you were able to get the cerclage--that's great news. Don't worry too much about going into labor at 32 weeks...that is so much better than now. My doctor gave me about the same estimation. That would take me to mid-February. I am praying that the next 8-10 weeks fly by given that I am on bed rest too. It's hard to just be on bed rest when there is so much to be taken care of. The doctor said that one outing a week would not be a problem, but that I should not drive or lift heavy things at all. The steroid shots are effective 1 hour after they are given to you, so your baby's lungs should be matruing by now. Keep us posted!
