Yea, I cant watch them anymore either, I think in 7 years of those types of shows being on I have seen maybe 4 vaginal births, and one with out medication of any sort, (that one was good, I am actually doing hypnobirthing this time b/c of that show) but all the ones I ever see are women, who get scheudled C sections, It drives me absoultly crazy.!!! Im expecting my 3rd child, and look forward to not having meds and breathing through the contractions and enjoying the birthing process. I look forward to remebering everything of my birth instead of parts of it.. I was reading in my Bradly Method book and many other birthing books the key to having a pain free pregnancy is not to watch those shows, since the pain can be handled as a mind over matter thing.
Good Luck with your home birth! If I had the space in my place I would do it also, but I am going with hypno birthing and taking the advice from Ricki Lakes documentary to heart and using it in the hospital. :)

I'm so thankful for each and every one of you ladies! I hope you all know that! I'm so glad I'm not alone on this subject! I'm doing it again now. The first birth was a homebirth. She struggled, got to 9 1/2. Went to the hospital and had her epi and a beautiful baby girl. The second is a scheduled repeat c-section. This time around, during the first birth, when the lady was having such a horrible time, I practiced my slow breathing, my positive affirmations, my good thinking, etc. So I think watching that show actually helped some. I hate that she had such a hard time with her birth and was in so much pain, but it truly affarmed why I am also doing hypnobirthing and practicing now! Even though I'm just 3 months preggo!! I tell you, I can't wait to give birth to my third child at home with my amazing midwives! I have my second appointment today I'll update ya'll this evening! ~Blessings~

While watching DIL deliver her baby in hospital last week, she had an IV in each arm, epi in her back, catheter, 2 monitors on her stomach so they could tell when her contractions were coming, heart monitor for her baby and another on her arm. They did not use the internal heart monitor on the baby that they screw in his head (I prayed and asked God to please not let them use it ,as they were walking into the room with it!) Even though they could see her contractions on the monitor, which they watched like an 80's video game instead of watching her. I could tell when she was having a contraction by just listening to her breathe. She could only lay there, and of course, not stand or move around it was like she was an invalid. High tech is not always good, doctors and nurses are losing their natural touch. My son told her a day later, that since the catheter hurt her so much, she might want to have a nat. birth next time

I get suckered in sometimes, too. My HATE show is "Deliver Me." UGH!!!! I hear the physicians giving some awful misinformation on that show about birth...about breastfeeding. Its rediculous. One physician was responding to a patient who was worried about her "big" baby boy getting enough from the breast. The physician says something like, "You know, those big babies are never satisfied by the breast. You almost always should supplement with formula for a baby that is bigger than average."
WTH?
I hate, also, how I get suckered in sometimes by a birth that looks to be a natural labor. Its a woman homebirthing or in the hospital doing everything right. But they ALWAYS fail on those shows. The mother always opts for an epidural or goes for cesarean or has to have pitocin or something. They hardly ever (IF ever) show a successful natural delivery. And that just ticks me off!!!!

I have never seen that show or heard of it before, but I echo your WTH. My 2nd son was EBF for the first six months and at his six month check up was a huge 27 lbs. He was very statisfied by the breast. That kind of misinformation just makes my blood boil.

Breast Milk is like supply and demand! You make what your baby needs, usually!
