  Swelling waist down after a Cesarian... anyone have it?? Reply Contact i am going on day  6 after my C/S... I have really severe swelling in my legs... it starts at my pelvic area (where they shaved me) all the way down my thighs, knees, calves, ankles and feet. My feet and toes are numb from the extreme amount of fluid. It hurts to stand for a few minutes. Laying with my feet raised doesn't help... So does anyone have or had these symptoms after a c/s?? Should I be worried?? Any suggestions to help them lose some of the swelling??

  Re: Swelling waist down after a Cesarian... anyone have it?? Reply Contact I haven't had any swelling in my legs,but on Thursday night and Friday morning I had swelling above my incision. I went to the doctors Friday morning and saw the nurse practioner-she thinks it is from my underwear rubbing against it and doing to much on Thursday( I was working all day and by the end of the day my feet really hurt that I could barely walk well when I got off of work my husband insisted we go to the grocery store instead of me going home and resting-I had my c-section on Oct. 14 so it is only been 5weeks and 5 days.),and she said it looked alittle diaper rashy. She told me to do nothing this weekend and to put zincoxide on the area that was all red and to wear granny underwear when I have to go somewhere and not to wear any when I am at home to keep so they won't rub against that area. I have been doing that since Friday noon and it looks better already when I went to put some zincoxide on it tonight and the swelling has gone done also. So I think she is right about it. The area that my underwear was rubbing against is wear they shaved me. I am not sure if this will help you since I only had swelling above my incision and no where else just thought I would tell you and see if it would help. If you are doing too much walking around try doing nothing but sitting down like I did and see if that helps I only got up if I really had to,but other than that I was sitting down doing nothing except holding my baby,feeding him,and changing his diaper. You should call your doctor and see what he/she thinks it is just to be safe. My husband thought that I was having the swelling because I did to much on Thursday and my underwear rubbing against it before we went to the doctors but I just wanted to be safe because this did not happen with my other two c-sections and it kind of scared me and I didn't want to take a chance of something being wrong and thinking it wasn't anything major and not going to the doctor so I went to just to be on the safe side. Reply Contact I would highly suggest you call your physician.  I don't think this is normal and could be the sign of a serious complication.  Often, when you are restricted in movement (i.e., walking after surgery), you can develop blood clots.  Edema in the lower extremities is not something to fool around with.  So, call your doctor as soon as possible to make sure that he doesn't want to see you.

  Re: Swelling waist down after a Cesarian... anyone have it?? Reply Contact I definitely agree with the pp ~ put a call in to your dr. to let him/her know, to be safe. I did swell after my last section.  It was because of all of the extra fluids they pump in you right before a section (they need to have you hydrated well before giving an epidural or spinal.)  It took almost 2 wks. for all the swelling to go down for me. Drink lots of water and keep your feet elevated as much as possible. Congrats on your new baby!!!!!!

  Re: Swelling waist down after a Cesarian... anyone have it?? Reply Contact Same here! I was SO swollen for 2 weeks after my c-section. My legs were so big I couldn't even wear my maternity jeans!! The doctors all said it was "normal". I was so happy the morning I woke up and looked at my legs and feet and said "yeah! my skinny feet are back!" I remember having to pee a lot too a couple nights in a row, more than when I was pregnant...I was flushing out all the fluid. I think I lost 20 lbs in one week...crazy. If you are really worried just call the doctor, because being numb doesn't sound familiar to me...
