    Re: Electing C-section

Just my two cents on this discussion...as has been pointed out C-sections are NOT minor surgery and they take some serious recovery time. My son was born by C-section and it was scheduled due to risks on my part from a blood clotting disorder and a concern over a potential placental abruption. I will be having another C-section for the same reason in June. They are a big deal. The female body is awesome in its ability to give birth and cope with pain, whether it is from a vag delivery or a surgery like C-section. And it is that, it is definately surgery. There are some legitimate medical reasons for having a C-section and generally those aren't considered "elective" because a vaginal delivery would cause greater risk to the mom or baby than a C-section would. Its all about what is best for you, but I would strongly encourage you to educate yourself on the two options rather than take anyone's opinion, including your doctor. IMHO, a fear of pain is legitimate but there are REALLY good ways to cope with pain during labor and delivery that don't involve the risks of the section. If you do chose a vag delivery, I concur with the previous recommendation to hire a doula. They can help make sure your wants are followed during birth, and can be invaluable resources in dealing with pain and anxiety during a delivery. Hope that helps and prayers and thoughts for your baby's safe arrival and peace for you about your decisions.

    Re: Electing C-section

i too am scared to push a baby out of my vagina lol.... i had a c section with my daughter after 15 hours of labor, i never ever thought i would have to get a c section so i never read up on everything. once they started to cut open i yelled cause i still wasnt all the way numb. so they drugged me up even more. all i really felt was pushing on my ribs, and omg they was horrible i thought they were gonna break them. after baby was born i just started crying cause i was so happy to not be pregnant anymore and see my lil one. well i tired to hold her in the recovery room and i accidently layed her on my stomach and that was a bad idea cause of call the drugs in me i started to throw up. so my whole family held her before i even really got to. for the recovery, it wasnt too bad, but the nurses never really made me get up and walk. i was in the hospital for 4 days and finally got to go home after they took the staples out (which didnt hurt at all). once i got home my c section got very infected and i could not walk. it lasted a couple days while i was takin antibiotics. after 2 weeks i went back to school and just did normal daily activities. i dont think c sections are bad at all. im due in may and i am def planning this one to be a c section. the doctors say recovery after a planned one is much easier than being so exhausted after so long in labor and also surgey and then have to recover. so its all up to you! i know i dont think i will ever want to push a baby out!

    Re: Electing C-section

Wow, what an experience. What you write about your c-section sounds really horrible to me. I can understand that it is scary to imagine pushing a baby out through the vagina, but the pain during crowning lasts only a very short time, and as soon as the baby is out it is completely gone. Of course this is if you are not tearing, but then you have stitches which you also have with a c-section (However, I am not commenting on this part, because I never had a tear or a c-section). So after your story I don't think I would be way more scared of the c-section. On the other hand a planned one will probably less problematic, and techniques have improved during the last 15 years. Wish you good luck!
