    PEDICURES?

So, I 've been off of work for a month and will be off again for the next month (due to spotting and bleeding). My midwife wants me to relax - no stress. I thought going for a pedicure would be a great idea. I booked the pedi, but was just speaking to my sister who said that you're supposed to avoid pedicures in the first trimester. Apparently there a pressure points in the feet, that when massaged, can cause labour. Has anyone heard this?

I've heard the same thing. My recommendation would be to let them know you're pregnant and to either go really lightly on your feet or just skip the massage all together.

I got pedis through my whole pregnancy. The girl doing my feet was pregnant and she told me that they shouldn't massage the bottom of my feet because it might cause contractions. I think just let them know and it should be fine.

According to this they are safe but to be cautious.

I think as long as you tell them and its a well ventilated salon it should be ok. I am almost out of my first trimester. But when I can I will be getting a pedi.

You just have to be cautious but I would not avoid them personally.  Esp. Since now I feel so huge and can barley reach my toes, having someone do them is just purley amazing..lol

Yeah I heard this at the hospital when I went for a labor/breathing class. They tell you to avoid it in your LAST trimester because it may possibly trigger early labor. I had my DH running my feet every night after week 38 and guess what? I did not have her until I was 41 weeks & 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
