    Has anyone seen...

Someone posted this on my birth board...

The Orgasmic Birth documentary?  20/20 did a special on this Friday night about it.   http://abcnews.go.com/2020

....I found it to be incredibly interesting and also find the idea of embracing labor to make it a pleasurable experience something I am willing to attempt (not anticipating an orgasm out of it).  I'd like to make the birth of my son something I can look back on and remember as a wonderful experience, and surrendering to pain and accepting the sensations rather than fighting them sounds really good to me!!!

Love to know what you all think!  Seems to me that most whom are planning on birthing in a hospital setting did not like the idea of it in the reactions to it on my birth board.

from my personal experience (2 all natural labor and deliveries). . . i cannot in any way shape or form relate to this. part of me wonders what the heck these women were smoking. ;-) i was VERY well read and informed on the birth process before going into labor. i had a great support team and a good attitude about it. i was 100% set on going all natural. i succeeded, but it hurt like HELL. . . it was no where close to pleasurable, enjoyable, or orgasmic. it was EMPOWERING, but it was physical torture and agony. i mean, if someone is successful at this orgasmic birth thing, more power to them. i just really cannot relate and don't get it.

My second birth was very pleasurable until the Dr almost killed me.  I would consider it orgasmic.  And I was not smoking anythingSmile.  I think location and support have a ton to do with how you feel your labor. I know that it has a bunch to do with perception as well.  I knew that I could do it and I was so excited to meet my baby that it was not painful.  I have gone on to have 2 other rather pleasurable births.  My last hurt, only because she was breech and her sacrum was rubbing on my pubic bone almost the entire labor.

i think it's very possible for you or for anyone to have a birth like that. Someone posted this on my board too and all the ladies freaked and were talking about how grossed out they were. Personally, i found that attitude gross so that's when i found this Natural Birth board. Which made me very happy to see! i would love to talk more about natural childbirth and less about epi's and fear.

That's why I posted this here.  I was actually very disappointed in a lot of the poster's point of views.  After doing tons of reading, I feel like this video just summed up everything I had gathered from the books I have read about how you can have this kind of birth; not just reading about it and not practicing it.  I think if you read and you know about it and still have a painful birth, then you were still afraid of the process and didn't get the same outcome as these author's wrote about.  Clearly women have had these kinds of births; it doesn't seem all that far from hypnobirthing, and was even mentioned in the video clip; the woman who spoke of it just looked soo happy and full of positive energy after her birth.  That's how I want to look and feel!

I just don't understand why someone would be grossed out by an orgasmic birth.  Why not embrace the possibility of a painless, enjoyable birth instead of succombing to the idea that it has to be agony and torture?  Are they grossed out because the women orgasmed?  How do they think the baby was conceived to begin with?  Someone climaxed!

I've seen that and think its absolutely amazing.  For someone to say its gross is just...well, not really ignorant...maybe uninformed?   I know quite a few women who are grossed out seeing a natural labor...seeing a mom delivering a baby upright or in squatting position.  Its just something we aren't used to seeing..."grossed out" is another way of saying "weird."  How many women actually orgasm during labor and don't feel it because of the epidural, do you think?  Probably a lot of them.  So, what part is gross, do you think?  The physiological response to abrasion of the interior vagina and increased blood flow to the vaginal region and the emotional experience of birth (e.g., orgasm)?...or that the woman felt it...and enjoyed it?  Either way being "gross" is absurd.

Though, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I guess.  A med-free, pain-free, orgasmic natural labor isn't for everyone.  Stick out tongue

I think I have a hard time believing that it could actually happen, but I think it would be awesome if my birth was like that! I saw your post on our birth board Christine but I never got around to replying on it. I really don't understand why anyone would be disturbed by having an orgasm during birth. Like pp said, someone orgasmed to make the baby and I'm pretty sure that most pregnant women are still having sex and orgasms during pregnancy, what's wrong with having one during birth?

As far as I'm concerned, if it means I'm not in total agony, bring it on! Smile
