    Birth Story - Jocelyn

On Monday, November 10th I went to my doctor for my 36 week check-up, everything was fine. I measured a little less than one centimeter dilated and the NP said she could feel Jocelyn's head. I had Tuesday off work so I spent the day with my sister and my nephew. By the tend of the day I was so achy and crampy that my sister wouldn't let me go home. I had been bleeding a little and crampy all day, but I didn't think anything of it because th NP said that might happen since she had measured my cervix. So we came back to my house, packed me a bag for work the next day and went back to her house and went to bed. Well, about 11:30 I woke up and was still so crampy that I though a warm shower might help me feel better, which it didn't. By the time I was done I wasn't just crampy I was having really bad pains. I didn't think to time them or anything (I couldn't be going into labor already, she wasn't due for 3 weeks!!!), but I called my doctor's office and the nurse on call said that is probably what was happening and I needed to get to the hospital. So I woke up my sister and we went to the ER. She called my parents and they picked up Nathan and brought him to the hospital with them. She timed my contractions on the way and they were about 1 minute long and 2 minutes apart. By the time they got me into a L&D room my contractions were 1 minute long and 1 minute apart. They gave me some medicine to slow down my contractions because I wasn't dilating, but the medicine messed with Jocelyn's heart rate. Also, she wasn't reacting very well to the pain medication they gave me so they decided to do an emergency C-Section. They had to completely knock me out, so I don't really remember anything that happened after they wheeled me into the room (and truthfully what I remember from the time I got to the hospital until then is kinda hazy cause I was in so much pain). I went into the operating room at 2:32am and she was born by 2:44am Wednesday morning, exactly 3 weeks early. There was an infection in the amniotic fluid and the first layer of the placenta so they had to take her very quickly. I lost quite a bit of blood and they had to give me 2 units and I didn't wake up until after 5:00am that morning (Wednesday). They took Jocelyn out to Nathan and my family right after she was born, but then she immediately went into NICU to be started on antibiotics because of the infection. I was also treated for the infection, they had me on a delaudin drip for the pain and 3 different antiobitic drips for the first 3 days I was there. I didn't get to see her until Thursday because I couldn't get out of bed and she couldn't leave NICU. I stayed in the hospital until Sunday and we brought her home on Tuesday, she had to stay and finish a full 7 days of antibiotics.

A great story that you will remember for the rest of your life and a great reason to cuddle your little miracle and give her one more kiss goodnight. I do that very thing because when my baby girl was born, she had been without oxygen for 2 minutes and wasn't breathing. The cord was so tight around her neck, the doctor had a hard time getting his fingers underneath it to get it off. They all worked together to not let me see what was going on because they didn't think she'd make it. My mom got up in my face and told me how beautiful she was and pretended everything was great to keep me from panicking. She wouldn't move though. They ended up getting her to breathe, but they still wouldn't let me hold her. I looked over and they were hitting her on the back with a cup trying to clear out her lungs. Our little miracle is named Kendra. She's now 2 1/2 years old and we're expecting our second little girl. Congratulations on your new little sweetheart. It's something to celebrate in your heart every time you look into her beautiful eyes and thank God for the doctors who saved her.
