  Blood clotting question Reply Contact I have had three miscarriages in 2008. After doing some testing I found out I may have a blood clotting disorder. Doctor re-ordered the blood test to make sure it was still high. Just to make sure this was the problem. He did say if it is a blood clotting disorder that I would go on Heparin shots. I have an appt. with him on April 22nd. A friend of mine said I will have to have a c-section if I am on blood thinners. Does anyone know if this is true? I really don't want to have a c-section if I don't have to. I have one DS who is two and I delivered him vaginally. Anyone with answers I would greatly appreciate it. I know I am thinking way ahead because I am not even pregnant yet.--KIM

  Re: Blood clotting question Reply Contact You shouldn't have to have a c/s just because you are on blood thinners. I have been taking blood thinners (Lovenox and aspirin) since I was 7 weeks pregnant and am on them for the duration of my pregnancy. My OB said I'll switch to Heparin at 36 weeks because it is shorter acting - that way I can have an epidural without complication. I was told I should be able to have a normal vaginal delivery. You shouldn't fret!!!

  Re: Blood clotting question Reply Contact Hi Kim. Not sure what disorder you might have, but I have Factor V Leiden, which caused my two miscarriages. I've managed to make it through both prenancies not taking Lovenox or Heparin, just baby aspiring. DS was born October 2006 by C-section and I'm due June 22 with a baby girl who will be born by C-section as well. It's an individual call by you and your doctor, but in my case, we felt a section was better for both me and Baby girl. I'm sure that if its safe, you should be able to have your vag delivery. Definately do some research after you get your results and before you get pregnant, because a lot of OBs will have very strong opinions about what you SHOULD do when the time comes. There is a group called ICAN (international cesarean awareness network) which should be able to give you a lot of helpful info too. http://www.ican-online.org/

My regular OB will be performing that so maybe I will just ask him about it if I get a chance. I will also check out that website you gave me. What would I do without this website?! I guess its whatever you and your doctor are comfortable with. Hope all goes well!!

  Sarah 2007 Joined on 07-24-2006 Posts 70	Re: Blood clotting question Reply Contact Hey there, I have a blood clotting disorder, I had to births vaginally and was not induced.  I did not have a problem.  HOWEVER, I never had false labor.  When it hit, with in 3 hours I knew it was really labor so I did not take my injections!!   GOOD LUCK!!
