    Airplane travel/electric blankets

Does anyone know about the safety of airplane travel during pregnancy? Does the radiation in the atmosphere or the lower concentration of oxygen up there affect the baby? I am nervous about flying, but I love to travel. I also read in one of my pregnancy books that you're not supposed to use electric blankets because of the electromagnetic field that they put out. Has anyone heard of that? I had been using my electric blanket until I read that!

Stephanie, I would like to say CONGRATS! on being pregnant, also I would like to pass on to you something noone ever told me my first pregnancy. I was actually told by one doctor that flying would be fine just to make sure to get up and walk around... a week after I flew I had a miscarriage, then after I talked to several different doctors and told them that I flew in my first trimester and the first thing they all said was ABSOLUTELY NOT should you have flown and that it most likely contributed to my miscarriage. Its not the lack of oxygen its the cabin pressure on your body and altitude. goodluck on your pregnancy and I hope this helped.

    Re: Airplane travel/electric blankets

everybody has different experiences, my OB told me to not go anywhere more than 50miles from home during my pregnancy, but only because he doesn't want me to get in any trouble too far away from home. However, with my first pregnancy I went on an 11 hour flight to Europe. I was about 15-16 weeks pregnant at the time. I'd say, wait until the 2nd trimester, but than you should be fine. Get up, walk a lot, because of swelling of your legs and the chance of blood clots, and drink A LOT, to keep yourself hydrated.

I can't speak to the pp regarding her m/s in the first trimester, but can only share my experience.

As for the electric blanket, not sure it's about the magnetic field, but it's about increasing your body tempreture. That's why you shouldn't go into hot tubs or take too long hot baths. you don't want to increase your body tempreture.

    hope it helped a bit.
