Why can't I find this name ANYWHERE?

  Why can't I find this name ANYWHERE? Reply Contact My greatgrandmother was a wonderful beautiful lovng influence in my life, she passed away when I was almost 17, and it was devastating. I was closer to her than I was to my grandparents. Her name was Estabelle, she was french/cajun, with an adoreable accent... and I never thought that Estabelle was a terribly unusual name. My first child was a boy, so it never crossed my mind, but I'm pregnant again, with a mystery baby (we'll find out at the beginning of august) and I'm choosng Estabelle as our name if it's a girl. I've looked EVERYWHERE, baby name websites, baby name books, parenting sites, etc, to try and find the name's meaning or orign, and it apparently doesn't exist anywhere! There are some of the weirdest, craziest, most bizarre names out there, but my great grandma's isn't one of them! What's the deal? Does anyone know how or where I could find out where this name comes from? I know her parents didn't make it up, I've stumbled across it in literary works, so I know it's not that weird, WTH? Help, please!

Reply Contact I tried looking for you as well.  I did find that there was a verse written in 1867 by an Author called John Stuart Thomson.  Maybe she was named after that?  The verse is called "Vale of Estabelle" Hope this helps

I have read "The vale of Estabelle" poem, and am wondering if maybe that was where it came from, it's sort of a dark poem, and Estabelle refers to a place, a cemetary I think (yikes), so that would be a little strange to name a child after. I do like the idea that maybe it was a combination of Esta and Belle, two pretty names with pretty meanings, not cemetary related. :)

You will be honoring your special great grandmother. Estabelle is unique and beautiful name. Tell your daughter often about the first Estabelle and she will be proud of her name.
