Re: im 19 and stuck need name for african and white baby
Is Maqenna supposed to be like Makenna? If it is... if you want something different go with the orginal spelling Makena... most people try to be unique with the spellings leaving this name hardly used, making it unique!
I like Kiana and Marcel
I don't like Takoda at all
Dakariah.... what about just Aria (Ah- Re- uh) or Sariah (Sah- RY- uh), or Zariah for a girl (much prettier) and Zachariah for a boy
Other ideas
Girl names:
Kiara
Jayla
Boy names:
Aydric
Dante

Re: im 19 and stuck need name for african and white baby
Hey, I will be having a biracial child as well, and also the first in my family. So I understand name concerns. here is a few ideas.
Girls: Gianna, Gabriella, Gabrielle, Jaydon/Jayden (boy or girl), Mya, or Amaya, Graycen
Boys: Jaylon,/Jaylen, Braxton, Carter, Drew, Logan, Ashton
Not sure if you like any of these or not, but maybe they will give you some ideas. Hope it helps you out some. Good Luck

I'm african-american and I'm naming my little girl Amy. I don't agree with associating names with race or color. My advice for someone having a bi-racial child is to just treat them like a child. Don't worry about your family or you will always be worried about what's too black or too white. Amy was actually my husbands' grandmother's name. Choose a name that's sounds right to you.

Race and names have NOTHING to do with each other unless there is some sort of ethnically based family tradition you are trying to uphold. I have met MANY darker skinned people with names like "Aaron" and "Emily."

Well, I actually have to disagree with this. I don't think I've ever met any white people named Jose or Julio. A lot of names have a strong ethnic base. My kids are all half Hispanic and we chose very ethnically neutral first names, but their middle names all have Hispanic roots, except for one of them because his middle name came from a family member that passed away. In fact, I have pretty strong evidence that names have a lot to do with race. Almost all of the junk mail we receive is written in Spanish because our last name is Garcia. Even our hospital bills are written in Spanish. That wouldn't happen if our last name were Smith or Johnson.
That being said, you should name your child whatever you are comfortable calling him or her. You don't have to use a name with strong ethnic associations. My kids names are Callista, Vincent and Gabriel. I've met people of all races with those names and they suit my children well. We wanted very strong, classic and classy names that we felt they could be proud of.

Then we agree to disagree. My children are half Latin and also have pretty ethnically neutral names. However, there is a difference in this culture between being Hispanic or Latino/a and black (or African-American if you prefer). Most black people in the US are Americans who's families have been here for many, many generations. Like I said, unless there is some strong cultural/ethnic need to give your child an "African" sounding name, or any ethnic name (and there's certainly nothing wrong with that) there is no need to differentiate between names that sound "black" or "white." And while, you're right, I haven't heard of many "white" prople with names like Jose or Julio, I HAVE met many black people with "white" names.

I don't like Takoda, Marquez or Dakariah at all. They like you're trying too hard to be different...same with the spelling of Maqenna. I think those are the names that get made fun of...the ones that just sound way different or are spelled way different. (And as you can see my mom had a thing for e's and spelled my name with e's. People make fun of it or ask me why I'm trying to be different)
I do like the name Makenna though, and I do like Marcus or Marcel. Kiana is pretty too. Good luck.

Re: im 19 and stuck need name for african and white baby
I understand your concerns.. I'm white and my boyfriend is Black/Nigerian (His dad is from nigeria but his mom is african american) so the last name is a traditional nigerian name, he wants there to be a nigerian name in the mix (I'm thinking middle name) But to keep things simple for the baby I think that we should call the baby something which is neutral--
and I think that it DOES matter what your family thinks about your child's name.
My boyfriend and I can barely agree on anything for a boy..
for a girl he's not as concerned about the nigerian name thing so we've decided on Alexa.
For a boy the name will be Ademile _____ Aiyelawo, and go by the middle name unless we make Ademile the middle name.
SO my ideas (which he rejected! haha) were:
Austin Reed
Dominic
Cole
Noah
Elija
Elias
and more..
if you find something let me know because we are still searching!

Re: im 19 and stuck need name for african and white baby
I see that the original post is quite old, but I thought I would toss in my .002 anyway. Fro a boy I really like the name Byron. I like it for a white boy, a tan boy a blue or purple boy. I think its just a great name. (though I did know a Byron in college and he was a PLAYA lol) He was darker skinned. If I have two boys, the second one will most likely be named Byron.

I think for a boy Jullian or Armon. That is a cute name for any race. For a girl i would say Georgette or Anaizah Zaire. Just something to think about.
