    tipped uterus?????????

At my first appt. w/my midwife she examined me internally and at first did not think I was as far along as I am, but said that my uterus is severly tipped backwards, and that can make a diffrence. Then she tried for the babies heartbeat and got it right away and said "oh yeah you are definitly 12 wks". Well I am now 17 wks along. I am just wondering what symptoms/complications a tipped uterus can have during a pregnancy, labor, and/or delivery. i have had people tell me things but I thouight maybe it was better to ask someone who was more educated in the matter.

Hey there mama...I'm not a birth professional, but I do have a tilted uterus.  I have had 2 children and this is my third.  My first daughter was breech and born via c-section. My second was born vaginally, VBAC.  I've been told by my doctors that a tilted uterus doesn't cause problems during the pregnancy or during labor/delivery. The only thing that it can cause is difficulty getting pregnant.  I have also been told that the uterus will flip forward into a normal position sometime during pregnancy, because it has to.  Usually between 12-14 weeks, it's supposed to tilt forward.  Right around12-13 weeks mine always flips forward and I can tell because it's easier to feel over my pubic bone than it was before it flipped.

I wish you luck! Ask your doc what they say about it, but from what I understand, you shouldn't have any problems.

    Re: tipped uterus?????????

With my first pregnancy the dr's never mentioned that my uterus was tipped But they did as sson as my daughter was born and of course this time. Maybe that is why I have had so much trouble getting pregnant:) I am not too worried just kind of wondering. I had a friend tell me that in one of her college classes she learned that with a tilted uterus they have to do a c-section. So that made me even more curious. I am not getting a belly at all yet and I was thinking maybe this had something to do with this as well. Thanks for telling me what you know :)

I also have it tilted(that's what my dr calls it) uterus. It's actually made it easier to get pregnant even though it should be harder, but by 14 weeks they told me it looks completely normal. When they start getting bigger they have to go somewhere, so they flip to a more "normal" tilt. That's how they explained it to me. Plus, it's like a balloon, it gets bigger like blowing up a ballon. I hope that makes sense. And I'm not a birth professional btw, just having #3 and the second two were with a tilted unterus.

    Re: tipped uterus?????????

Noone told me I had a tilted uterus until I saw a doctor at 14 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately, that same day I found out that the baby had died, which was devastating, but it was assured to me that the tilted uterus had nothing to do with it.

My first daughter was born via c-section because she was breech...not because of how my uterus was. My second was born vaginally.  Also...had a tilted uterus with her. I think that either right after or a few weeks after birth the uterus goes right back to it's "normal" position, which for us, is tilted backwards.

From what I understand because it's backwards(lol) you won't show as early as someone who's uterus is forward, like it's supposed to be.  Apparently, tilted is just a variation of normal nowadays and shouldn't cause any problems. :)  I also think that this is why doc's don't mention it...because it's just a variation of normal.
