If you're having a planned c-section, it's likely they'll do a spinal (one numbing shot in the spine) rather than an epidural, at least they did that with me, and will be again this time. So they should let you eat solids as soon as you're ready, if you aren't nauseous or vomiting. I've never heard of the "waiting for a bowel movement" thing, in fact my doc actually told me most women don't have bowel movements for several days after a c-section, I went 4 days! Anyway, I had a big fat roast beef sandwich 6 hours after delivering my son by c-section (I'm typically vegetarian, but I hadn't eaten for over 24 hours, and it looked really good!). I even had my mom bring me some strawberries and cherries from her garden, since I didn't like the fruit selecton the hospital offered. BFing having had only one or two glasses of champagne is also totally safe, though waiting until right after you nurse is a good idea. The one problem I could forsee is the interaction with whatever pain meds they might have you on. Mine were percoset ('m allergic to morphine) and they say right on the bottle to not mix with alcohol, although one small glass might be okay. I waited until I was off the pain meds, 6 days after delivery, to have my first glass of wine, and it was WONDERFUL, one glass was all I needed. One thing you don't realize, is that after 9 months wthout alcohol, it doesn't take much to make you tipsy! You could always save the champagne toasting until your first day home with the new baby, that's a pretty big milestone too! Good luck!
