    weight gained during pregnancy

Ok so of course it's obvious that I'm going to gain weight during pregnancy. But coming from someone who struggled with maintaining a healthy weight (and being pretty successful over the last few years), it's really hard to break the mentality that it's ok for the number on the scale to go up. I just have that instinctual rise in blood pressure as soon as I see it! Anyway, I was just listening to a podcast that said "Between 20 and 30 weeks is when actually the rate of weight gain is the greatest." Definitely dreading the change in the scale, but also glad that the baby is healthy because that is the most important thing. How do you all feel about the weight you've gained during pregnancy? p.s. the podcast I was listening to has a bunch of great info. you can check it out here: http://peainthepodcast.com/transcriptions/index.asp?PodcastId=21

    Re: weight gained during pregnancy

I have struggled with my wieght ever since my pregnancy with my first 15 years ago. I gained a lot when I was preganant with her, I went from 130 to like 210. I did lose some of it and then was on a roller coaster for a long time. When I got pregnant with my son I stopped looking at the scale at 250:( I did lose quite a bit after delivery and within a few weeks I was under 200. I pretty much hovered around 170ish after that. I am tall and carry it pretty well but am still very self concious about my body. I am 39 weeks pregnant and I am doing great with this one. I have gained about 30 pounds and I am so happy with myself:-) I actually have gained the most towards the end. I think my greatest was 3 pounds in a month which isn't bad. At my last appointment I was actually down 3 lbs. The best thing to do is eat healthy and get all the nutrients you need, your baby will def benefit. Also try to stay as active as possible, I think that was my biggest asset because I am just so busy all the time. Plus my office is on the second floor of the building so I am constantly up and down the stairs all day. Good Luck!!!

    Re: weight gained during pregnancy

I've always been on the small side and so when I got pregnant everyone was looking forward to seeing me put on weight......which I have (I'm in month 9 now) I actually put on 50 pounds....but people who see me are always amazed at how small I still look (except for the protruding belly of course) So the scale says +50 but I don't look like I've gained that much weight....I fretted many months over the numbers on the scale until I realized that the numbers don't equal fat......there's baby, fluid etc that really adds up too. A friend of mine just had her baby....she had gained 40 pounds total, and by the time she got out of the hospital she had already lost almost 25 pounds of that....turned out it was mostly fluid and water retention.....So my advice is...don't worry about the numbers and just focus on eating as healthy as you can, indulging when you really need it, and most importantly staying happy
