    Scared

I just graduated college and am in a serious relationship and have been for four years; however we weren't planning on pregnancy quite yet. I just found out 2 days ago that I am pregnant. I am really worried because for the last few weekends (it is football season!) I have been drinking alcohol. I am so nervous that I might have put my baby at risk. I am a nurse and I know that the chances are slim of harm to the baby considering I am only 5 weeks pregnant but I still can't get it out of my head and I could really use some reassurance. Has anybody else had any experiences like this?

I would try no to worry to much about it... I know a few people on the Sept board that said the same thing in the beginning and I am one of them.. The important thing is you stop now that you know;-) Good Luck with your pregnancy!!!

For most of the embryo's nutrition, at this point, he is using a yolk sac, instead of the placenta, which will connect him to your bloodstream, and forms after the 8th-11th week, when he'll graduate from an embryo to a fetus. Until then, if you'd consumed a few drinks here and there, they have no placental barrier to cross, and are extremely unlikely to have even been able to reach your baby. Don't worry! Most women don't realize they're pregnant untl around 5 weeks, and none of us are nuns! I had a few glasses of wine before I found out I was pg with my now 16 month old son, and he's perfectly fine! I'm 5 months pg again, and same story, had a little wine during the first few weeks before I found out. I'm not worried, and you shouldn't be either! Not that it's a free pass to drink early in pregnancy, but the first few weeks, the egg and eventually embryo, are more self succificiant, than reliant on your bloodstream for nutritive intake! Congratulations by the way! Hope you have a H&H 9 months!

    Re: Scared

i'm on #3 and i had the same thing with all of mine. i found out around 5-6 weeks with all of mine and knew i had been drinking after conception with all of them until i found out. sometimes heavily! as crissi said, it shouldn't effect the baby until he/she starts getting nutrition through the bloodstream. both of my boys are perfect, smart & healthy so i wouldn't worry so much- that's not good for the baby either :)
