    Alana vs. Alanna vs. Alannah

As I said in a previous post we are leaning toward the name Alana if we have a girl but I have seen it spelled three different ways.  Behindthename.com (which I learned was a great authority on actual meanings from someone on here when I was trying to find names for my last baby) says Alana and Alanna are English and a form of Alan, Alannah is a variant of Alana but it was influenced from a Gaelic phrase which means “O child”.  I like that meaning better than the meaning of Alan which is “little rock” or “handsome” but Alannah is a variant of Alana so I am guessing Alana is the more “true form”.  Which do you guys prefer?

I like the look of Alannah spelling better. It seems to have more "substance" behind it. I wouldn't worry about the meanings too much. No one walks around saying "hi, my name is O child".

    I like Alannah the best

On another site it says that Alannah means "precious" and is Old German and that it also might be a term of endearment... O child.

And Alanna and Alana are also Old German and Hawiian and means "precious; awakening"

I like that 'O child' part of Alannah =] very cute. I vote Alannah. If I were to choose based on looks alone I'd go the simple Alana, but Alannah has a nice extra meaning.

Personally, I like Alanna. IMO it all means the same thing, you can spell it however you want and it's the same name.
