Thoughts on "Emilia"?

  Thoughts on "Emilia"? Reply Contact Pronounced like just as 'Amelia', but with a 'E'. One reason for the 'E' is so I can use the nickname "Em/Emmy", and another is my dh's aunt is Emelia, spelled the same - and she's always been great to us :) What do you think of it?  ETA: Changed the spelling from Emelia, with an 'e' in the middle, to Emilia, with an 'i'. Just found out my MIL had been having me spell my dh's aunt's name wrong all these years!

Since she will be named after Aunt Emelia, I wouldn't mess with the spelling. Currently, Emma and Emily are very popular names, so this is similar, yet still unique. Very nice choice!

Reply Contact I love Emelia!!!  My Emilia (Emmie) is the same age as Finn.  I love that we named her Emilia and everyone always makes comments on how beautiful her name is.  Emilia actually predates Amelia and Is actually the original Latin spelling.  Shakespeare used Emilia in his play Othello...and St. Emmelia is the mother of St. Bazilwich.  My DH thought that I was coming up with a new way to spell Amelia, so we did lots of research.  My reasoning was that I wanted to name her Emma after my grandmother, but Emma is now way to common.  So I thought Emilia was a compromise.  Anyway, I LOVE it!!!  :)

She's from Italy, and all these years my MIL has been telling me to spell it wrong! So I change my spelling to "Emilia" LOL And I LOVE the way you spell the nn, with an 'ie' (Emmie), super cute! My dh is actually on board with this name... so now just waiting to see if it's a girl!
