weight gain & what does doc say?

i was curious how everyone else is doing on their weight gain (totally up to you, but being pregnant i don't really care lol)

i'm 5'2" and started out a little heavy at 165ish and am now 190- so i've gained about 25 lbs. compared to my other pregnancies in which i gained 60 lbs & 50 lbs respectively, i don't think 25 is that bad so far. of course there are still 8 weeks to go and usually babe puts on 1/2 lb for each of the last 8 weeks. i tend to grow big babies- what can i say?! my first was 8lbs 13 oz and my 2nd was 8lbs 2 oz. so i think i'm doing pretty well this time- i wanted to keep it under control as best i could for obviously many reasons- health, ease, other kids, etc. at my last apt my doc said he didn't want me to gain much more. ya... easy for you to say- you're a man & not pregnant! LOL

I've gained about 20 and very proud of myself, since I am on bedrest and am normally a very active person (I LIKE to exercise!!) I still have some time left though and am hoping that this baby will be smaller since I have VERY BIG babies. Big meaning my smallest was 8 lbs 8 oz and my last one was 9 lbs 13 oz!! and all with no c-secs!! 25 is a good weight gain so far, it is hard to keep the weight gains small, as all food looks good!!

I've got to be at the 25-30lb mark at this point (32 weeks)--but I stopped looking!  I was getting so upset every time I stepped on a scale, it just wasn't worth it...not when everyone, including my OB, said I was doing (and looking) fine.  When I stopped obsessing about the numbers, I felt much better.

I'm swollen and can seriously FEEL the excess fluid squishing around in my hands and legs--ew--so I know there's a lot of water weight involved.  That, and I just haven't been able to be as active as I was with my first; I've had more heart palpitations and such whenever I exert myself.  I just shrug and figure it'll come off when I deliver my littlest man, start breastfeeding, and getting back to my regular life.

At my last appointment, my OB's exact words were, "Your blood pressure is perfect, your weight gain is perfect, I'm proud of you!"

So, I'm listening to his words and remaining blissfully ignorant of the numbers.  Smile

I am going to make everyone jealous...And I don't know How I've done it myself, because when we are too tired or lazy to cook we eat fast food, which happens often....But I have only gained FIVE Pounds Total! It's been 3 Weeks since my last Dr. Appointment and so I am not sure how much I have gained since then. But All of that 5 Pounds has got to be nothing but baby, cuz it's impossible for me to have increased blood volume and fluids and a 3 pound baby in there and only gain 5 pounds, So she must be sucking it off me. Don't be too jealous though cuz I am a big blubbery girl. I'm 5'9 but I started out this pregnancy At 275! I am hoping ultimately to get back down to 200 after I have Lorelei, hopefully Breast feeding will suck some more off. I wonder how much I will go down at the hospital right after she is born.

Re: weight gain & what does doc say?

I have gained 8 lbs so far as of my last appointment on October 29. I also started out heavier. I am 5' 2" and I started out at 177. I have had my babies close together 20 month to be exact, so this is my 3rd child in 3 years. I don't want to make up excuses, but I feel like I never totally lost the weight from one before moving on to having another one. I don't have another appt. until November 30th, so I will see where I am then.

Since the beginning of the pregnancy, I have lost 5 pounds (gained none).  Same thing happened with my other 2 pregnancies too (very little weight change).... And they were not little boys - 8lb 4oz, and 8lb 12oz.  Doc thinks this one will be in the 9lb range <gulp>.  Typically I leave the hospital after having the boys about 15lbs lighter than my pre-preg weight.  Of course after I stop breastfeeding, it starts to all come back.  This time I am going to make a huge effort to keep it off.  I'm a bigger girl too, so they are not concerned since the little guy is growing well (I have U/S's every 4 weeks due to my GD).

Looking at me pre-pregnancy and now (28 weeks), so you can see I have lost weight (not just 5lbs!), in my face and arms.

I started out at 135 and I think I'm at 170 now, so 35lbs. I gained 50lbs with my first baby, so as long as I stay under that I'm happy.

i'm 5'6", and weighed 140, which seemed like a healthy weight, for me.  i gained NOTHING the first 5 and a half months (i never do), then in two months put on almost 20 lbs.  i have been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for 4 and a half years straight........in a year or two, i'll be excited to get my body "to myself" again.....

Well, I started at 223 & at my appt yesterday I was 230. I lost a lot when I had m/s. My first was 7lbs 1oz & 2nd was 8lbs 13 oz. I figure this one is gonna be over 9. My Dr just wants me to watch my intake of sweets & salt. But he said my weight is right where he's happy with.

Re: weight gain & what does doc say?

Well, I carry odd I guess....although I've seen a couple of you ladies do a lot like I do...

I'm 5ft 3inches tall and I started out this pregnancy about 220...lost 20lbs...(really didn't have m/s...but I lost about 20lbs w/ the girls in the beginning too)...I eat like a hoss...I weigh 208...well I did last week...so I'm *finally* gaining...neither of my dr's are worried bc I did the same w/ the girls...they questioned it at the beginning but when they pulled all of my paperwork/files they said they weren't worried at all.

My girls were great weights for twins (5lbs 11oz & 5lbs 7.5oz @ 37wks 5days)...I think I got up to 230-ish with the girls...after I lost weight w/ them I was about 190...then 3 days after having them I was 185lbs.I'm REALLY hoping that I can get back down to the 180's after having Alana...180ish is my comfy weight...I'm hoping that I don't gain too much & that I can BF for at least 6 months w/ Alana...I really wanna get back down to a comfy weight again...especially since I'm single again...I wanna feel attractive

Re: weight gain & what does doc say?

I started out at five feet, and weighed 128, I now weigh 155, so... I guess I've gained 27 lbs. Damn good compared to last time! I gained 50 lbs with my son, he was 9 lbs at birth, and I was back to pre-pregnancy weight by the time he was 3 months old. Isn't breastfeeding the weightloss miracle of the universe??? I'm 30.5 weeks now, and by the time I was this far along last time, I'd gained almost 40 lbs. So I consider this a small victory so far, to be around 13 lbs less than last time. Still 8.5 weeks to go until my c-section, so there is still tme to gain, but I'm hopeful it'll be a little less than 50 this time. As for what the doctor says? Who the HeII cares? Last pg, I got all the "That's too much weight to gain," and "It'll be difficult to lose all that weight after the baby comes," and "You should only gain between 25-35 lbs." nonsense. Sorry to disappoint, but I had zero trouble dropping every single pound! As long as you're healthy, and eating right, a little more weight gain than doctors recommend is not a big deal!!! Believe me, now is not the time to diet, my big healthy baby is proof of that!!!

Re: weight gain & what does doc say?

I have gained ALOT - about 20kg. But all was at the beginning. I have only gained about 2kg in the last 2 months, and now 8 weeks to go. I asked the doc about it (2 different docs now) and they are very clear - they don't worry about people weight gain/lack of weight gain any more. They go by the size of the uterus and check blood pressure etc. They said if it was obvious the womans body is struggling with weight, it would show elsewhere eg the blood pressure. Then they could take action, but they have both specified that there is too much emphasis on weight gain or lack of it. They asked me about my weight before pregnancy, and weighed me at the first check at 10 weeks, but not since.

Re: weight gain & what does doc say?

Well, I stopped weighing myself once I got to the 30lbs mark. I started at 140 and stopped looking at 170. I'm 29 weeks and this is my first so nothing to compare to. My goal was not to gain more than 40lbs but I don't think I'm going to make that goal. That would still make me lighter than I was when I graduated HS. My doctor hasn't said anything about my weight other than when I gained 8lbs in one month! Eep. My last appt. they said my weight gain was fine. Now I'm curious so I'm going to hop on the scale lol. Probably a bad idea.

I am 5' 7" and started out at 218#  I am currently 223# at my last appt.  5# is not bad.  I try and keep my weight under control because I am already a big girl.  My Dr is just fine with it.  He says that as long as baby is not suffering he will not say anything, and Meghan is growing perfectly.  50 percentile on her growth according to the U/S.

My son I gained 12# and he was 9# 5oz.  My daughter I gained 4# and she was 7# 13oz.

I'm 5' 8", started at 135 and am now at 165. 30 pounds. I think I'll be headed to about 40 pounds. Doc says everything is good, so I'm good. My hands and feet are so swollen, maybe its allllll water weight! Wink
