    dumb pw article

Did any of you see the pw article on homebirth? I went to it becaues todays start page has birth options on it. It stresssed having a CNM or physician attending the birth only. Why wouldn't they include CPM's, who also have a degree in midwifery? Then it went on to say that you can't have had a c/section or history of complications at a previous birth. It makes me mad because a lot of those complications may have been hospital caused, and women certainly can opt for a HBAC. Then I saw that for more info you should contact ACOG......the main enemy of homebirth! Those guys don't listen to any research studies and are very against homebirth... I can see why, it takes their business. Does anyone else think it's odd that they list homebirth as an option and then make it sound like it really isn't an option? I mean, there are very few CNM's or physicians that deliver at home, and any info they get from ACOG is goign to be antihomebirth! I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I just needed to rant! There haven't been any reliable research studies that show that homebirth is more dangerous than a hospital birth. Why don't they link to some of that info or to info on types of midwives..... dumb pw!

In case you haven't figured it out yet, PW is NOT the place to have many alternative views with regards to pregnancy or birth.  It's almost 100% mainstream only here.  If you want, I'll PM you the link to a community that is 100% supportive of homebirth and pretty much all things natural and crunchy!

And lord forbid they include the option to not have a midwife and just go with it.  I think that if women actually know their real options than they make safer and more educated choices.   You need to come to EM Anne!

Preach it, sister!  I agree that she needs to come to EM.  I think she'd find it quite enjoyable!

I'm "battling" with a friend back in TX who's 41 and pregnant for the first time, and she's already talking about how her doctor might not "let" her try for a vaginal birth.  Her doc thinks her hips are too narrow.  Um, she wears a freaking size 9 shoe, so there's no reason why she couldn't birth up to a 10 1/2 pounder before she even THOUGHT about her hips being too small.  I'm glad I live in AZ and am not around her all the time.  It could end a friendship.

Yeah, pm me. I am on one other community, but I'm thinking EM is different.....I'm so glad people like Ricki Lake are publicizing choices, I hope the movement continues and people learn the truth about their choices and safety!

Did Laura PM you about it?  If not, I'll send you the link. It's nice to have a place where when you mention homebirth you don't have to spend the next 50 posts explaining WHY you would even want to do that in the first place!  There are a whole slew of us that are prepping for them on there right now.

As far as forums go, PW is pretty mainstream. I didn't even join my birthboard this pregnancy. On my last time around pretty much all of the deliveries involved inductions, epidurals & csections. Not trying to be judgemental--every woman has the right to make her own choices about how she wants to deliver. But it's not the best place to find tons of posts on non-traditional options like homebirth, birth with a CPM, etc. I've gotten a lot of better information from other forums. (ICAN, Mothering.com, etc)
