i used to be a nail tech....

as long as the people doing your nails dont need to wear a mask then getting your nails done is perfectly safe.. usually the best palce to go while preg is an american place, not to the asian places...

    Oh Yeah!!! I think they're a necessity!! ;-)

I just make sure I sit near the door or ask for one of those little fans so I'm not breathing too many fumes. I just had a mani-pedi this weekend for my shower. Also had both done on Mother's Day. :)

Apparently there's supposed to be a pressure point in the bottom of your foot that can put you into labor (though I wouldn't be suprised if it just encourages what your body is almost ready for anyway!) So if the routine is to give a foot massage with the pedi, maybe that's why? I know I went into labor within 24 hours of my first pedicure! I was also 40 weeks on the nose too though!

it is the chemicals from the acrylic nails that are most dangerous-also the massage aspect of the pedicure with the labor pressure point is VERY true..this is the same for back and neck massages-my midwife says to only get massages from people certified to work on pregos because they know the areas to avoid.  If you are getting acrylic nails done, wear a breathing mask, the fan suggestion is good too, but you don't want to be breathing in those toxic fumes.

FYI about the pressure points...there are several on your hands, feet and ankles, however, to properly stimulate them requires 10 to 20 seconds of pressure repeated up to 10 times. So really, there is not enough risk of accidentally starting to labor for it to be a concern! Enjoy your treats!!
