I'm 9 wks, is MetroGel safe to use right now??

I went for my first check up at 6 weeks and now I'm 9 and I found out I have BV. The doc prescribed me MetroGel. I have read many things that say it's ok to use whenever and then many things saying it's okay to use only after the 1st trimester. I'm so confused and wondering if I should just wait till I'm 12-13 weeks to take. But then I think well she wouldn't have prescribed it if it wasn't safe for me?!?!? Help!
