We have a Walmart that is nearly as close as the commissary. A couple neighbors said they always got more for the money at Walmart than they did at the commissary, so I went to one one week and the other the next. Walmart is actually the better deal here. My husband's cereal addiction, Strawberry Frosted Mini Wheats, is $3.36 at the commissary for a small box. It's $2.98 for a bigger box at Walmart. That was just the most glaring price difference for me, there were others. When we were first at Drum in 2004 there was no beating the commissary, but Walmart wasn't there yet. And I do know that not all Walmarts have these prices because when we went to the Walmart in Lowville it definitely did not save us money. When my parents were here (diehard Walmart grocery shoppers) they got a cart full of groceries and it came to $158. My mom about died; she said it would have been at LEAST $250 in Virginia. I still go to commissary for meat, milk, and eggs, cause it is cheaper on those, but for everything else I go to Walmart. Just curious if anyone else was noticing this. I expect prices to rise, they are everywhere, but I wouldn't have expected the commissary to raise prices more than the closest competition.
