    1. Know what to expect.  I took Bradley classes before the first, but that may have been overkill.  Just expect the pain, know the stages, and have many plans on how to cope.  What actually works for you might not be what you think of right away.

    2. Have a good support system.  A doctor/midwife who supports drug free birth, a doula, a friend or a husband who will stand up and be your voice.  During much of my first labor, I was in too much pain to speak and was thankful to have my doula and DH tell the anesthesiologist to get lost.

    3. Have a birth plan.  But also know that things won't go *exactly* the way you want.  Don't beat yourself up if things if the plan needs to change, that's just how life is.

    Good luck!

Re: just got my BFP, and I'm going to have another drug free birth

I had a pain med drug free birth with both my babies and I was induced with both!!!! First baby I had cervidil in for like an hour and they took it because my body took over and I was in labor for 5 hours from the first contraction to pushing him out 7lbs 3ozs. Second son I was given pitosin everyone told me that stuff is terrible and I would have to have pain meds.... well they started it at 8 am I was at 6 cm couldnt break my water since my little guys head was still too high, 1 pm the doctor came in I was on the highest level of pitosin singing through the contractions like there was nothing to them!!!! They broke my water.... then I had 15 minutes of hard contractions and was fully dilated, pushed 12 minutes and at 1:27pm Zachariah was born 8lbs 15 ozs!!! WOW! =) For advice about going pain med free I would say try to relax every part of your body as much as possible don't tense up at all no matter how hard it is, and remember God made our bodies to be able to do this!!! I think by relaxing through labor it made mine go fast!!!
