Magdalene...how do you pronounce it?

  ~Sonia~ Joined on 09-19-2006 Posts 233	Magdalene...how do you pronounce it? Reply Contact It seemed pretty straightforward to me, but I realize some may pronounce it different.  Our favorite girl names right now are Magdalene Jean and Eva Jean  How would you pronounce Magdalene??

  Re: Magdalene...how do you pronounce it? Reply Contact I'd pronounce it the way we always did in church, Mag-da-lyn??? As opposed to the more european pronunciation of Mag-da-leen. HOWEVER one of my best friends has a 2 year old daughter named Magdalena, (last part pronounced lay-na) and I think it's just beautiful. Names are so subjective, that you as parents can take whichever pronunciation you like best and call your child whatever you want! And she would have so many nicknames to choose from! Maggie, Magda, Lynne, Lena, etc... Good luck!

Reply Contact If we have a little girl (we don't know what we're having) we're going to name her Magdalena (with the last part pronounced lay-na) and call her Maggie. If I saw the name you posted I would probably pronounce it Mag-da-lynn as well. What were you thinking?

Reply Contact Thanks for the replies!  I was thinking 'Mag-da-lynn' for the pronounciation, but I had a few people thinking 'Mag-da-lean' or 'Mag-da-line'.    I think we're sticking with Magdalene (Mag-da-lynn) and she'll be Maggie most of the time...the longer I go, the more I fall in love with the name!  :)
