Update on my L2 ultrasound and the amnio

Well we got there an hour early and I have to say that was about the longest hour of my life! We first met with the genetic counselor who again went over everything. I did learn that Most everything had already been ruled out (as far as being higher risk - because they cant rule out anything) except down syndrome. This made me feel better. I know in my heart that I can deal with down syndrome, but other things seemed so devastating to me. In any case she made me feel better, she was a little less statistical and a little more personable than when we first talked. she reassured me the chances are still good the baby is just fine. We talked about the ultrasound i would be having and how there could be small markers or light markers seen and they could be absolutely nothing. there could be larger or heavier markers seen and they could be nothing. which just made me feel so uncertain and confused lol. So they did the ultrasound, we saw EVERY part of this baby it was really cool! I got some cool shots, especially of his feet. The doc came in (he already had looked at the pics) and he wanted to check the babies heart because he saw something concerning. But after about 10 minutes more spent on the heart he decided it was just the angle of the shot and told me everything looks perfect!!!! no markers for downs. Then it was time for the amnio, of course he still recommended it because the ultrasound is not 100%. They did itabout 2 inches above my belly button and to the side. I was thinking it was in your BB!!!! anyway i barely felt a thing at first, seriously my flu shot hurt worse. but then when he was done and pulled the needle out i felt this shock to my back and instant mild cramping in my back. its still there but really not bad at all! He said the fluid was dark or brown and that he could tell i probably had some bleeding early on and i confirmed that. he also said my placenta is still covering my cervix. Anyway thats it it went well, i am feeling 75% more positive than last night lol I will be ok the next 2 weeks. Im resting in bed with a heating bad on my back. i have a bad sore throat and have been sneezing all day. im trying to hope its allergies since its been so windy but who knows lol. Thank you all for the support and prayers. keep them coming.

So relieved for you that the u/s looked good and that the amnio is behind you now! I'm sure the anticipation leading up to it was so stressful. YAY for getting to seeing your little man again!

I had the amnio because my blood work came back showing an increased chance for down syndrome, specifically 1 in 25 chance. REALLY SCARY!!!! I think norm is 1 in 500, im not sure though. Everything looked good on ultrasound so im feeling hopeful all is well with my little guy!
