So at the hospital where my midwife office is, they are screening *everyone* for flu smptoms. If you dont make it thru the 'screening', you have to re-schedule your appointment. Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that? So if I fit their criteria for being sick... my baby can't be checked..... I would think maybe they would set up something with an area for people that fail the screeing. I had the flu last week, and still have my cough... so there is a chance I may not pass the screening on Wednesday for my 28 week check. Its not easy to get an appointment on short notice, unless its an emergency. I can understand them being stricter, but sending people away is NOT the answer!
Oh, and NO kids under the age of 12. If you have them, and can't arrange childcare, then you have to reschedule your appointment. This hospital is where I was going to have the baby. So if this rules stays in effect, then my boys wont be able to come see me when I have the baby. :-( Oh well.

That is really crappy. I hope they still see you for your check up!
I feel your pain. All of the hospitals here are being strict too. My OB has a satellite office in the hospital, so I am there a lot. There are signs everywhere stating that visitors under the age of 18 are not allowed. I do not know how SAHM's with littles make it to their appointments if they do not have alternative care available!
I understand the concern, but I hope this stuff dies down by the time we deliver! I want my son to be able to see us in the hospital!

I was also wondering if you could proove your kids had the vaccination, would they let them thru... but they dont give you anything official (atleast with seasonal flu) saying you have been vaccinated. I have my sons immunization record cards, but it doesnt require a special signature/stamp.
I am a SAHM, and dont have a baby sitter! Luckily I was able to schedule my appointments (check ups) for the first appointment of the day before hubby goes to work so he can watch the youngest.
If they are so concerned about kids "getting" it, not passing it on... if they themselves pass the screening, then they should be able to come in (to the hospital), right?
In the same vein, they should be saying "no pregnant women", just like no kids, since they are hit the worst/hardest.....

Wowzers--that's one strict OB office! My OB had me sitting in exile--a chair in the hallway, outside the office door--when I had my last appointment as I'd been very ill with the flu, though at the time the fever had finally broken and I was on the mend.
My hospital implemented a no visitors under 14 rule about 6 weeks ago, and apparently, now they have cancelled their Maternity Tea & Tour (where you get to tour the hospital, see the L&D wing, etc.). Yikes. Thankfully, I was able to attend the last one they had just before that rule was implemented. The sibling classes are also cancelled.
Interestingly, though, I did come down with the flu (OB is convinced it was H1N1) three days after I attended to tour. Likely just coincidence, but a curious one.
I asked if there was any chance they'd lift the no visitor rule by the time I deliver this baby, or if I show my son has been vaccinated against H1N1. I was told it was unlikely--and that the workers in the hospital get very little notice ahead of time. Apparently they got notice the Maternity Tea & Tours were to be cancelled on a Friday, and they had a tour scheduled for the following Monday! Seems we're all flying by the seat of our pants.

Ruffian - this isnt just the OB office, this is the whole hospital. My ob/miwife office happens to be in an attached building! Atleast they called me to let me know (my appointment is Wednesday).
Do you have anything showing your son was vaccinated against H1n1?

That's just ignorant. Jmo. If my hospital told me my girls couldn't come with me they'd have an angry red head on their hands...and I have one helluva temper. H1n1 is just the damned flu! Yes, its more dangerous IF (lemme reiterate) IF not treated in young children, pregnant women and elderly... It's a hospital...ppl are THERE to be treated... Sorry, the entire situation just pi$$es me off....ppl have a tendency to blow everything out of control and build up a massive hype when it's not needed. For a hospital/dr's office to blow it this far out of control is just pathetic IMO. I really hope you can find a way to have your son at the hospital hun
(Hope I didnt offend anyone)

Sherrikay:That's at EVERGREEN??! That's SUCH a central Hospital, I can't believe they would DO THAT! I'm SO SORRY. Maybe tell them you have been treated, have no more fever, and will wear a mask?
Yes Sherrikay - Evergreen! (Did I mention that's where I went????? How did you know? <lol>). I forgot you are somewhat close!!!!!
I really would like bubs to be checked out, since I have had this. He moves a lot... but still... I will wear a mask since I still cough now and then, but they always say with any cough involved sickness, it takes foreverrrrr for the cough to go. We shall see what they say tomorrow morning!

mdkissel:
When I received my H1N1 vax, and also when my son received his first dose (second dose will be given in another month), we were both given a card that showed we were vaccinated. I am hoping they will lighten up enough to accept those, and let him into the hospital when I deliver. It sounds like some hospitals are not accepting that proof though. I am definitely bringing this up with my OB on Thursday, when I have my next appointment. It's crazy!
My son got his vaccine this morning, and they were not going to give me anything, and I asked for them to sign his immunization record..... Who knows which direction all this will go by the time we deliver! Its holiday season, people ARE going out in public, in big numbers (Xmas shopping) which is how it will/does spread.... so we will see! (Me.. I am shopping online!!!!!)

BrittanyandCedsBaby:Personally, If my Hospital says no visitors under 12 or 18(Some are saying this!) it would be a relief. I don't want some sick little kid coming in and getting me and my baby and any other person sick. And gideon will get to meet his sister at home which will be just as fun and cozy. The Hospital is 45 minutes away down a very narrow windy canyon so the baby sitter wont have to worry about that trip.
Yeah, I am not quite sure how I feel about the "no kids".. I guess I think they should be screened too.
