I have stayed away from this debate b/c I thought I was the only one who doesn't mind the ban.  Alan & I had decided to keep the boys away and not b/c of what they could bring in, but from what they may catch.  Heck - I have a 50yr old boss walking around sneezing & coughing today w/o covering his face - and I said something to him plus put hand sanitizer on his desk.   Now I understand that things get blown up but I'm not sure I want to even take that chance.  Plus...I know Brady's my crazy man so I know even if he did come to the hospital that it would be a very very short visit unless Phineus & Ferb is on the TV.  It might be hard staying away from my boys for a couple days but in the long run I feel that meeting at home is our best option.

As far as them coming into the maternity ward... I'm not sure how I feel, not strong either way I guess.  Its the blanket ruling of not allowing kids in at all I didnt like.  I'm a SAHM, and of course I would prefer NOT to take my son with me to the place 'most sick people go'... but I dont have a baby sitter at my disposal, and hubby cant always watch the kids, appointment times aren't always felxible.  My 3yo is NOT one to sit still either.. my crazy guy! <lol> That's where my frustration is directed....

Had my OB appt today and the only thing different was a small station at the very front for anyone having flu-like symptoms. Still not sure what my hospitals policy is for the birth, just gonna wait til it gets closer to worry about it

I didn't mean to imply that one side is wrong or right....I completely understand the frustrations.  I am lucky right now I do have family close that can help care for Brady when I have appts & when I have the baby.  And what is it with 3 yr olds????  It's like they test all limits at one time.  LOL  As for the DR visits...I do agree with you on that point.  My DR is very very flexable on times - he even will stay late or come in early if necessary (once in a while) but I think if he said no kids then it could become an issue.

Oh yeah..  I was just clarifying where my feelings were on the subject.

When my oldest was 3, he was **completely** different.. so much so he was at the birth of #2!!!  He was a mature 3 y.o (yeah, they exist, but very rare).  I didnt realize how rare till #2 hit 2 and 3 years old!!  There is no way #2 will be around when I have #3!!!!!!  Then again #1 wont either - he is now 6.  I think being 3 is some sort of right of passage.. pushing limits, being so full of energy we just want to bottle it and sell it etc <lol>  I am hoping #3 is anywhere on the spectrum below what #2 is <lol>  Wishful thinking!

hi - lurking from april board- the hospital system in my area has made a rule that no one under the age of 18 unless they are a patient is allowed until further notice at any of thier hospitals. And then of course they ask if you have any symptoms or have been exposed to not come either. Just seems that this could make things very difficult for some people.

Well, when I had to go to L&D a couple of weeks ago they had a notice posted stating no children under the age of 12yrs. So I guess I'll have to see if the family can watch both of my boys while we're in the hospital. It makes it inconvenient for us and my oldest son is going to be crushed since he missed his little brother being born, but what can I say or do???? Everyone just hang tight and maybe it'll be lifted before we start having these babies and those of us who want our other kids to be there can have them there.

Not sure what the policy is here, but my 2 oldest were in the delivery room for my now 4 year old (which is my oldest son's ONLY brother out of 5 siblings, and this one is a girl as well) They loved being there, but it isn't for every family. None of the kids will be there for this one, but I would like them to come and visit if they want to, especially since I might need a c-sec with this one. I think the older kids will understand if they can't visit, but explaining to younger kids is really hard, they just don't get it!! hopefully everything will blow over before we have our babies and it will be a non-issue

    AussieH:

So at the hospital where my midwife office is, they are screening *everyone* for flu smptoms.  If you dont make it thru the 'screening', you have to re-schedule your appointment.  Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that?  So if I fit their criteria for being sick... my baby can't be checked..... I would think maybe they would set up something with an area for people that fail the screeing.  I had the flu last week, and still have my cough... so there is a chance I may not pass the screening on Wednesday for my 28 week check.  Its not easy to get an appointment on short notice, unless its an emergency.  I can understand them being stricter, but sending people away is NOT the answer!

So I get to the hospital this morning, and there was no screening!  Or atleast I couldnt find it!  Of course my cough started to play up coz it was cold, and that's when it flares up.... :-)  I went right up to my midwife's office.  I was there early, since I had left extra time for the screening!  Weird.
